So far it is just the time displaced Cyclops, Jean, Iceman, Angel, and Beast.  Magneto is supposedly leading them now.  Just wondering what the Blue was in reference to the title?  I get Gold (top team, best team etc.), why didn't they call this X-Men Silver (since they are Silver Age heroes in a Modern time).  Just wondering....

As someone else stated the Blue and Gold refer to the X-men teams of the 90's. After one event, they had just a whole load of characters so they split the team into two Blue and Gold (which were the uniforms of most of the characters of the time. So, the X-men title followed one team and Uncanny X-men followed the other. So, they are just bringing it all back around.

  2. And when I was younger I wanted these so badly but couldn't afford them, as soon as I got full time at work they were mine :sumo:

Sorry for the cruddy camera pics

Awesome! Two of my favorite games from Final Fantasy. Personally, I think these two were the best they made. Great statues!

  3. I'm jealous of you all. I recently got into finally getting statues. For about 7-8 months I was buying like mad. Alot of the Transformer stuff. Especially the stuff for the movie. My happy moment was getting the Unicron statue. The one where he is standing over Rodimus Prime and Arcee and Prime is holding up the matrix. I also got the huge Unicron statue in Paradigmcomics picture. was also getting alot of the Marvel villans busts. My favorite is Thanos.

Anyway, we are trying to move to bigger house so all my stuff is packed up until we do and I can finally have a man cave. lol. And Bobset, I don't have the Antman statue, but I do have the Giant-man, Goliath, Yellow Jacket, and Ant-man busts. Also have Wasp (modern) and an Ultron bust to go with them.

  4. Hobgoblin was always my favorite Spidey villian. Just like others I had started reading ASM as a teen in the 80's. I remember having my mom by the Spider-man vs Wolverine comic and she frowned because it was a whopping $2.25. lol. I read it and loved the story. It really was more about Wolverine and Charlemagne (however her name is spelled) than Spidey. Seeing Ned Leeds dead didn't really resonate with me until a long while later since I only got the odd comic here and there.

I think the best story was in Web of Spider-man when the Rose explained how he had been working with Ned Leeds/Hobgoblin to take down Kingpin. I even liked Jake Macendale's storyline.

And then came Hobgoblin Lives. Ugh! To make Hobby into a fashion designer... Didn't make sense. I know the writer says that was the plan all along, but I just never saw it. And it seemed to make more sense to have Ned as Hobgoblin.

I love all the covers. I wish they had used Hobby in the movies instead of Green Goblin. And now, Greeny just doesn't seem to be scary. Osborn is great as a character but the writers can't seem to write Green Goblin. To me, Hobby will always be the best goblin.

  5. It's kind of sad to see someone's reputation change like that over time. You idolize the guy as a kid only to have all the glamour stripped away one article at a time.

People that I have dealt with that knew Kane personally said he wasn't too bad of a guy (I bought a sketch from a guy who said he painted Kane's home) but there sure are a lot of stones getting overturned showing how he tried to cover his tracks.

There are threads in the GA forum that document regularly where Kane copied stuff and used it as his own. I can't remember the exact details but I believe it would be considered plagiarism today. Maybe it wasn't as big of a deal 80 years ago, but it certainly looks damning.

I respect Bob for his business sense. He got it right where so many creators at the time didn't. Definitely a forward thinker there. However, I'm all about giving credit where its due. And that's the sad part of this. Bill died pretty much penniless from what I gather. In the meantime, Bob is getting paid royalties. I wish he had given Bill the credit he deserved. I just wonder why DC hasn't done the same thing they did for Superman's creators. Yeah, I know there were lawsuits for years, but, why not just come out and be honest? Just do the right thing. And I think comic book collectors and maybe pop culture followers may know about Bill but I doubt the average person knows about him. I mean the people that see the movies and cartoons and such.

  6. Someone else posted about the ending of The Killing Joke but while there I found this:

    http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/08/12/he-made-batman-no-one-else-kane-had-nothing-to-do-with-it-bill-did-it-all-carmine-infantino-on-bill-finger/

I have heard of Bill Finger before and had heard alot of the story. It was pretty said. Basically, Bob Kane had education and business sauvy to really roll over Bill. Bill was less educated and really just trying to work. My understanding is that Bob Kane had a contract with DC that basically said that whenever they did Batman they have to say "created by Bob Kane". I really hope this guy is able to help the last of the Finger family and get poor Bill some recognition in the main stream media.

  7. Recently finished

Ghost Rider and The Masked Rider, both by Neil Peart

    In progress

    The Game - Jack London

    Dune - Frank Herbert

Love the first four Dune books. Those were great. The last two I know he did for the money and to me it kind of shows. The sequels and prequels his son did were okay junkfood reading. Not great by any stretch of the imagination. They started off okay. But fell flat with the reason for the rift between the Harkonnens and the Atreides. That was just stupid.

  8. Reading a few things. Just finished BloodQuest by Terry Brooks. I can never pass up a Shannara book. Just got Emperor of Thorns, the last book in that trilogy. Also, reading Zealot: The life and times of Jesus. Its pretty good. Its actually about the history of the period, not about religion. Also, Hitlerland: Eyewitness accounts of the rise of the Nazi Party. That one is one everyone should read. The book is made of the journals and interviews of Americans that were in Germany in the 1920's-1930's that saw the rise of Hitler. Funny thing is that most sources thought Hitler was a joke and basically a flash in the pan. Again, a history book.

  9. Some Cool Darkhawk Covers.

And there also appears to be a 2nd print for issue #5? Is that right? hm

Oh I have #13 somewhere in a box. I was collecting all the Venom appearances back in the day. I liked the couple of issues. Also, isn't there one with a holographix cover. Like a red light shining from the chest emblem? Got that too. Is that #25.

  10. So what about Deadpool? He was suppose to be an assassin. Now it seems he is reaching Venom proportions of overuse. Let the abuse begin. lol.

I think it is a very fair question, and look forward to the discussion.

I think him having a variant cover on almost ever comic Marvel publishes is ridiculous, and I don't even collect them outside of the Deadpool comic because of it.

Exactly how I feel. As I said previously, Venom was a cool and kinda scary character. Then as he became popular he was in more and more mini-series, guess appearances and such. The character got dumber and dumber. He just became overused and watered down. Now seeing Deadpool on all these covers...

  11. I know the masses may kill me later, but I have to ask. Is Deadpool the new Venom? I mean, when Venom came out, he was pretty cool. Then he was way over used. Turning him from a villian into an anit-hero. IMHO it just watered down the character. The new Flash Thompson version seems pretty cool so far.

So what about Deadpool? He was suppose to be an assassin. Now it seems he is reaching Venom proportions of overuse. Let the abuse begin. lol.

  12. I was never really into Gen13 mostly because of all the hype about it at the time. I did pick up a few books here and there, a couple of crossovers they did with Marvel or DC. Didn't they crossover with Superman once?

  13. So if Sue got a hold of Magneto's helmet she'd be queen beetch of the Marvel Universe? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

plausibly so. in the "one on one" sort of sense.

who's gonna stop her? maybe Dr. Strange?

the one real limitation as i see it is that she has to be physically present to use her power. she can't attack someone in Ohio, for instance. so she would be fighting a defensive battle after the first couple of surprise attacks...which would not be a great thing.

plus, she gets tired. so i doubt she could hold the title for very long before being usurped

This is true. She would always have to be present and possibly in danger to use her powers unlike Magneto who could grab a satellite or what ever to drop on ya. Also her physical stamina would come into play as far as her concentration. But as a one on one fighter, she'd kick pretty much anyone's tail if written to her fullest potential.

You are ALL wrong!!! 893scratchchin-thumb.gif You forgot the man with no legs. the man who can kill all mutants and control their minds...Professor X. acclaim.gif

Well, he's the most powerful telepath true, but his powers could be blocked liked with Magneto's helmet so that neutralizes him as a threat so that all ya have left is a dude in a wheelchair.

  15. sorry gang, but Galactus is stronger than Hulk and even Thanos is stronger than Hulkie...

i think Hulk can be the top shelf for "human" strenght, but it wouldn't be a match fighting the big G and the nasty T

    regards

There IS no top level for Hulk since his strength is tied to his anger/rage. The madder he gets the stronger he gets so there's no way to say where his power level stops. Now, I'd agree with you that Big G would stop Hulk on any given Sunday in a regular book, but throw them into a MAX book and have Big G cut off Betty's head in front of Hulk and I bet Hulk could take him. Also, there was an issue of Fantastic Four where the Invisible Woman took out Galactus by herself by stabbing him with a really big invisible spear. I think it was her "Malice" persona or just after. As far as the FF are concerned Sue is the most powerful hands down. hail.gif

    well, duh.

she might be the most underrated - in terms of sheer power - in the entire MU

Excuse my ignorance, but why the invisible woman?

Because she can make her force shields into any shape and size she can imagine as well as make them as solid or thin as she wants. Basically, think of her as having GL's powers without the ring or the yellow problem. Yeah, the Thing is physically stronger, but she can put him in a force box and squeeze him to death or put invisible plugs in his nose and mouth until he suffocates. Same with Johnny and Reed. Her powers just have much more versatility and potential than any of the others.

why not just stick her force shield into his lungs and push all the air out? or make a micro-thin blade and lop his head off? or put a giant column underneath him and push him up into space and then dissolve it?

the only people who could stop her would be telepaths, the invulnerable, and those who don't need to breathe. and i'm not so sure about those last two

Well, yep, she could do any of those as well. Was just thinking of an example off the top of the head. Yep, she could be pretty devastating if they really wanted to write her that way. I don't think any writer has ever sat down to truly consider her power potential. I think really the only ones that could touch her on the human scale would be the telepaths. Just like GL she has to concentrate to make her powers work so if they messed with her mind then she'd be helpless.

sorry if my post came off as brusque, not my intention at all, just adding to the myriad ways Sue could kick 99% of the MU's arsch

This is true. At one point they were really writing her as a pretty tough chick since Reed was "dead" at the time. They still do well with the character but they haven't let her really cut loose with her powers laterly. Of course, I suppose if they did then it would show she really didn't need the Torch or Thing around. Just need Reed there to figure out the brainy stuff.
