  1. Is it common to not be able to view your submission by its submission number even when its in the "scheduled for grading" stage? According to the site I should be able to see it but I keep getting the error. Its been like this for around 2 weeks for me since my modern books were received on 7/30.

  2. Hello Everyone!

I'll be going to my first Comic con next week and was considering doing my first cgc submission there. My question was aside from filling out the forms prior to going there so I have everything ready how do most of you bring your comics there? Would I be ok bringing them there in a shipping box and then handing them off to a staff member there with my form? Anything I should know prior to getting everything ready?

    Thanks,

Looks like a 9.6 to me.

Can I ask why? Like, what specifically stops it from being a 9.8?

I can see only a few possible problems:

First, in photo #5, there appear to be some areas right along the spine fold where there's some white showing (i.e. color break). In particular there is a spot at the left edge of the photo that exhibits this. I think you can also see it a little in photo #7. I've seen this a lot, particularly with comics that have thick glossy covers. (And it drives me crazy sometimes trying to decide if what I'm seeing is really a color break or if I'm being fooled by the artwork.)

I've always wondered a) what causes it and b) how much of an impact it has on the grade?

I have a couple of theories as to the cause. One is that it's due to the stress on the paper from the machine that folds the comics. The other is that the spine tends to rub against the side of the cardboard box that the books are shipped in. Those are just guesses though. All I know for sure is it's annoying to see it on a book that hasn't even been opened yet.

Second in photo #2, right near the bottom of the staple, there's something that looks like a small indentation in the spine. I don't know if that counts as a tick though (it seems to be caused by pressure from the staple itself).

Third, in photo #3, there may be the tiniest hint of blunting on the corner.

Other than that, I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm dying to know if I missed something. :)

Wow thanks for all the feedback guys. I see what you’re saying about the spine. I have a few copies of this issue I can upload pictures of another one that I think look good too. I was on the fence at 9.4-9.6 as I’m not sure how much leeway they give you point wise on the spine and breaking color.

I joined as a Premium Member two years ago and have just completed my third renewal. If you pay by continuous direct debit, the fee is reduced to $129, and you still get the $150 credit.

I save until I am ready to send in 25 books - the return shipping is the cheapest per book at that quantity.

I have had zero issues redeeming the credit, and I believe I will remain a member "forever" on those terms.

    Best wishes

That’s a great tip thank you. I was thinking about going credit but I will use debit instead.

  5. Hi Everyone,

I'm looking to purchase the $150 premium membership. I just had a question regarding cost of grading and what you guys average with it. With the discount of 10% and a $20 grading fee making it $18 after discount. Will I have any other fees added on to the final evaluation of grading the books if I only send them in for the grade and slab? I wont be doing a pressing or cleaning or anything just the grading. If it's $18 a book and I do 10 books should it be $180 plus the invoice of $5 and the shipping fee? Ideally i'd like to use the credit immediately with the books ive been selling and I've been reading on the forums that a lot of people like to send it 5+ books at a time usually.
