  1. Cross-posting my one and only. Hopefully more to come, but I kind of doubt it with all the attention this auction is getting. Bought this a bit high on 3/2022 from CC, but I paid for pedigree. This same comic seems to have been sold by CC 10 years prior on 8/2012 (for considerably less) I wonder if I was on the leading edge of this sale, or that it had already gotten out into the wild and it was just a coincidence that they are all coming to market now. 2 1/2 years seems like a long time to hold a collection .
  2. I have kept my powder dry for a time such as this ... @Paul © ® ⚽️💙™, your humorous post motivated me to articulate why *I* care about the name of the forum, for whatever it is worth to anyone. @VintageComics has been a voice for respecting the history of the term 'Golden Age' and I find myself strongly aligning with him. You say you love GA comics - of course, all of here in this forum do, for various reasons. I suspect however that many of us are fascinated by the historical aspect of the comic. We would not spend hundreds or thousands of dollars (any more than that and you have probably veered into the realm of the comic as an investment) to acquire physical copies of a GA comic unless that were true. Otherwise, why spend that much money when you can just get a reprint or download a scan to read? It's the same reason why someone would spend outrageous money to acquire an original Rembrandt, when for pennies on the dollar they can have a copy that is pretty much indistinguishable from the original. In addition to the historical aspect, as collectors we try to get the best presenting physical copy we can afford and can be quite fastidious (read OCD) when it comes to their storage and presentation. Given the above, I suggest that just as we are respectful of the physical comic, so too we should be respectful of the decades-old historical conventions in the naming of the eras. Despite your valid point that the name of the forum is really not that important, It does not surprise me that many of us bothered to express an opinion, since it touches on respect for the history and an undercurrent of OCD in keeping things 'the way they have always been'. Perhaps it sounds silly, but that's how I feel about it and am glad that the name has been changed back to its original name. Cue the slings and arrows ...
  3. Why does it have a new number? I imagine a detached cover would have knocked it down .5, but then a cover clean bumped it back up, and the two factors triggered/justified a new number. Who knows? I'll need to dig it up and try to take my own photo of it. Will update ...
  4. DITTO! My mild OCD tendencies are especially annoyed at the fact that the capitalization is inconsistent .. Golden & atomic Age comic books A forum for discussing golden & Atomic age comic books. Really, if you must do it, at least do it nicely!
  5. It will be quite telling if the prices do not drift downward as all this locked up material comes to market. I would like to infer that to mean there is another generation coming along that values these beautiful time capsules and is willing to spend $ for them. Some prices do seem to be coming down from the insane valuations of 2022-2023 (can you say Promise collection ), but on the other hand, some things are just exploding and hitting record prices. And then there are the pulps ... and ... Neither of which reached their reserve prices. A year ago I bought ungraded copies of each from CC in 5.0 (a CC 5.0, maybe a 4.0 - 4.5) - for about $20. CRAZY!
  6. Well, here's one they won't have ... I'm convinced this is one (sold in 2012) is actually the same comic, prior to having work done on it and being reholdered (evidently the detached centerfold compensated for the cleanup and there was no net grade bump - overall I think it was worth it.) Note the dust shadow lower right and the ticks mid-spine (upper one around August and about a 1/2" below that)
  7. I'm fairly indifferent to the Flash covers. When Hibbard took over I pretty much wrote them off - not my style.
  8. YES! The early Moldoff Hawkmans are amazingly good. I'm partial to #19, #17, #9, and #33 myself. A #19 just came up for auction, but I couldn't afford the fare. A *signed* #33 also closed a little while ago, but I just couldn't swing it at the time. *sigh*
  9. I was sorely tempted to chase this one, but had just won Ian's copy in the PBA auction and couldn't justify making a run for it. Nowhere near as pretty as yours, but a whole lot cheaper This and #8 are my favorites in the run. Glad you won it. Ended up right around where I figured it would, which I thought was a fair price.
  10. Same. This is the closest I've ever gotten ... Melrose is up the block from me (perpendicular to my street) but I wouldn't know Don Dokken (I'm assuming he is in the eponymous band) if I tripped over him Hey @VintageComics, are you local or was Melrose a tourist excursion?
  11. Enjoy ... Left Top Front Cover Erasure Mark Right Top Back Cover Moderate Chews
  12. Funny, on Earth One they associated Star Sapphire with Green Lantern. Didn't realize she was a GA character.
  13. Echoing @Dr. Love, Whoa, that was abrupt! And I for one am voting AGAINST it. I don't see what it adds, introduces an element of confusion in those that are unfamiliar with the term, and goes against decades of tradition. The other forums are single words: Silver, Copper, Bronze, Modern - simple, clean. Maybe 'Modern Age' should become 'Modern Newsstand and Direct Age' to capture the change in distribution methods? That was facetious. Please don't get any ideas.
  14. Isn't Schomburg the bomb? Elder is more subtle and nuanced, but when Schomburg goes there, it's usually over the top.
