Hello, please keep it in the original holder and we can crack it out here.  When you submit it, you can note on the packing slip and also attach a post-it note to the holder stating your preference for a Universal label.  However, it would have to be regraded, in this case and not just a reholder, as the grade will change once we incorporate the signature in as a defect.

    Thank you!

Jennifer, thank you so much for your follow up!  This is exactly the information I needed

Hi,  I checked with our graders to see what they advise on this situation.  In most cases, the unwitnessed signature will get a qualified label. The graders said you can request a universal label, but there is no guarantee that it will receive one. This is not a guaranteed service and is solely at the graders' discretion.  It would also significantly drop the grade if they did decide to give it a universal label (the example given was if a book was a 9.8 but we treated the signature as a defect, it would possibly go down to an 8.0).

    Thank you!

Jennifer, I really appreciate your follow up!

Can you answer my questions on the procedures on resubmitting this slab and requesting a blue label?  Do I crack open the slab before sending it to CGC?  When going through the submission form, do I submit this under the "reholder" option?  Thank you!

    Good morning,

Thanks for your message.  Unfortunately, if the book was signed on the cover and that signature was not witnessed by an authorized CGC witness, it will receive a qualified label and a universal label is not an option.

    Thank you,

    Jennifer,

I appreciate you response.  I understand that this issue would never qualify for signature series.  Cynthia Richie from CGC support has replied to me in the past saying that I can request a blue label on any issue, and the grader at their discretion can assign a blue label.  I've done this in the past many times and always received a blue label.

When I originally sent this issue in, that was before I became aware that I could request for a blue label, so I didn't request it and was given a green label.  Now that I am aware of the option to request a blue label, what would that procedure look like for this green label slabbed issue?  Do I send the whole slab in?  Or should I crack it open before sending to CGC?  When filling out the submission form, do I select the "reholder" option?  Or do I have to submit again for grading under one of those options?  Thank you!

  4. I have a CGC slabbed issue that was given a green qualified label.  It has a signature on the cover and wasn't part of a Signature Series signing...hence the green label.  I'd like to resubmit this slab for regrading with a blue label.  Do I submit the current slab?  Do I need to crack to slab open first?  Also, can I just submit under the "reholder" option?  Or do I need to submit this for a new grading under one of the grading tiers?

  5. I have a green qualified label slab that I'd like to resubmit for a blue universal label.  It has an auto on it that CGC didn't witness, hence the green label.  What's the process for me to resubmit this slab?  Do I send the whole slab into CGC?...or do I have to open it first?  Do I have to have the issue regraded as well, or should I submit this under the "reholder" submission option?  Thank you!

    Good morning,

Please contact our customer service department for questions regarding specific invoices.  You can reach them at: 877-662-6642 or by email at: submissions@cgccomics.com.

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

  7. I have a walkthrough submission that is currently at double the posted wait times.  Should be 15 days for a magazine submission to get pressed and moved to grading.  It's now been 30 days.  This is from when the submission showed up in my CGC account, not when it was delivered.

I have a lot of patience because I really like CGC, but also wish they would be more transparent.

  8. I submitted 3 magazine walkthrough orders and all were processed by CGC around the same time, 4/20 thru 4/24.  Each order is being pressed before grading and my status is still showing each order as "received".  While the current wait time for walkthrough magazine pressing is 15 business days, my orders are all coming up on double that expected wait time.  While I know CGC is backed up right now, double the wait time has me concerned.  Can you look into this?  Here are my order and submission numbers

    CGC1343180485 - 3827249
    CGC4042919436 - 3829274
    CGC9685117874 - 3829931

If you're talking about sigs on the cover I don't think this is correct. If there's a sig on the cover they don't waste time trying to figure out the "real" grade, they automatically give it a Green and the "apparent" grade. That's why you have to request a Blue, as it doubles the workload. This wasn't always an option either, it used to be Green or nothing for unwitnessed sigs.

Look, I get that this is a very confusing topic.  I emailed CGC and asked specifically how to do this because I was sending in a book with an autograph on it and I didn't want the dreaded green label.  Here's the word for word response I got back.  She says 6.0, but my experience is more like it's around 7.0.  I've received both 6.5 and 7.0, blue labels for autographed issues I submitted without requesting the downgrade and a blue label.

To request a Universal grade instead of Qualified, please include a hand-written note both on your printed submission form and also attached to the bag of the specific book (post-it on comic bag) and our graders will review and make a determination on that request during the grading process.

Write in large bold font: PLS DO NOT QUALIFY - DOWNGRADE FOR UNIVERSAL.  Generally at or below a 6.0 the writing/signature on the cover no longer has a significant impact on the grade and our graders may feel it is not necessary to qualify the grade.  They will factor the signature into grade and the book would receive a Universal (blue) label with the same notation of name on cover in marker.

Great book. Thank you for posting this. When you sent it in for grading did they ask you if you wanted a green label or blue label? Do you know how many grades the signature dropped it to reach the final grade of 6.0?

I have seen unverified signature graded books go both ways (blue and green labels) and I am curious how CGC selects which label to use.

The grader will determine whether to give it a green or blue label.  However, you can request either during the submission process.  Usually if the book grades above a 7.0 they will give it a blue label and above a green label.

Those SI CGC above are cool imo 😷

Thank you!  I'm seeing a lot of collectors rotate out of sports cards and into graded SI's, it's a fast growing hobby!

  12. How do I go about alerting CGC to incorrect census information.  For example, the Sports Illustrated issue v99 #16 has the incorrect date listed in the census.  It should be 11/20/2003 as that is the date listed on the front of the magazine.

Hello. A newbie here, and realize this may be “off topic”. So I apologize if this is out of line.  ... any opinions appreciated on this 1964 Sports Illustrated (1st Swimsuit issue).

    The Good:

Unlike many vintage magazines, there's no mailing label on the front cover.

    Complete; no missing pages.

Tightly bound with no loose pages.

Lays 100% flat; no spine roll.

    No tears on inside pages.

No folds or creases on inside pages.

No markings, underlines, etc. on inside pages.

No tanning on the insides of front or back covers.

    No water damage.

No restoration (in my Father’s / my possession from 1964).

    The Bad:

Spine split in cover about 3/8” long between the staples.

Color breaking wear along the length of spine.

    TLFC: Light damage at corner.

Light color breaking abrasions approx. 0.7” from TLFC corner (above "S" in "Sports").

Approx 1/8” long color breaking crease at top edge about 2.25” from TLFC corner (above "o" in "Sports").

LLFC: Several color breaking abrasions near lower staple.

    LLFC: Light corner damage.

LRFC: Color breaking crease (about 3/8” long).

Yellowing of about ¼” of inside page edges.

Agree that you have about a 6.5 - 7.0 issue here.  Somewhere around that.

You can try using a hair dryer to heat up the label and scrap off carefully or try using "Undu" Remover which evaporates after application.  Can be found at most stores or Amazon. I believe CGC does not ding you for subscription stickers on your Sports Illustrated magazines, but your CGC label will show "Subscription Edition."

Correct, subscription editions are listed separately in the CGC census.

    Hello everyone,

I was hoping to get a little info about my grading. I have sent in my son's cards (well some of the) and I wouldlike to know if I over-nighted the cards like i did when will they be put in my tracing info? I have paid for expedited grading and nothing has been put on this web site about my son's cards!!!

Thanks again for any info I can get,

    SGT, Long

I've seen posts on other forums saying that right now CGC is opening mail that was received 2/2.  So looks like the receiving dept. is about 6 weeks behind
