    So... Where are the arabic Spideys?

    I've seen one or two but nothing that really sparked my interest enough to buy. The prices were high, grades low and were in an album format rather than individual issues.

     

    That's about what I've seen, too. My guess is that there is a very limited (if any at all) knowledge in the arab countries about what collectors in foreign countries are interested in. Either that, or the dealers and collectors who sit on the arab spideys don't know how to use a scanner.

    yea art was altered for sure for the Arabics.... And that is even considering the fact that these were printed in Lebanon. A known liberal bastion of the Arab world... lots of universities and places of higher learning. For me though nothing beats the reading style of the Arabic and Hebrew books! :gossip: Spines on the right are just freakin cool man...... :cloud9:

    You'd have to give me an idea of what's available from Sweden (link to a database or auction site?). I'm sure there's probably stuff I'd be interested in picking up but haven't really looked into Swedish books too much. I've been kind of focused in other parts of the world.

    i got 4 guys in Norway looking with a $3-500 budget....

    Yes I do. I have 12 of the first 22 danish issues and 5 of the first 8 norwegian issues.

    I got the norwegian #1 maybe ten years ago, it was a really good deal, I don't think it cost me more than about $175. I haven't seen any for sale since, but I'm not really active in looking for them, either. Still, it's a tough piece that may take a few years and a lot of dedication to track down.

    I also found this Filemon album that I had been looking for for many years. It is a french comic that started publishing in 1965 ('Philémon' in original). 16 albums have been published in France but only three of them have been translated into swedish. I have not seen any english translations. The story is about a teenage boy who lives with his father on a farm. He falls into a well and is sucked into the water, which serves as a portal to another world, where he experiences all kinds of fantastic adventures. A must read!

    P.S. Why CGC insists in writing "Marvel Comics", which is not clearly the publisher, in the foreign editions. It should have read "La Prensa, 9/62", with details in the label notes (i.e. "Mexican edition of Fantastic Four #1").

     

    I have been having the same problem with CGC for awhile.

     

    Would you guys be interested in helping me compile a list for CGC to reference?

     

    CGC's quality control im afraid when it comes to foreigns is cr_ap lately! :frustrated: Such an amazing book and all they had to do was look at the indicia and see La Prensa publishing? Also it doesn't say "Mexican edition"? :censored: WTF guys..... honestly if I was Hector I might consider this needing to be re-holdered? Highly important info is completely missing? Also this probably jacks up the census because I know I have seen a La Prensa FF1 properly identified. hm

     

    GCG needs a foreign expert sooner rather than later..... this books handling is shameful. Liam, I like the idea of providing CGC with some lists or database info but there should be something in it for you son, dont do this for free!

     

    i already emailed them with links to their own mistakes...

    they said the Head Grader said it is final

     

    Man, that sucks. And I don't even collect CGC!

    Early japanese edition, from march 1970:

    The title is 'Shonen Monthly Magazine', I don't know how many of them contained Spider-man stories. These are all made in Japan and completely different stories than the american ones, they are much darker and made for a more mature public. Thick as a phonebook and very seldom offered for sale on eBay. Now I have two!

    Yes, I know about them, but haven't yet been able to get my hands on any copy, despite Iceland being a 'neighbour' nordic country. The population of Iceland is only about 320 000 people, therefore the print runs were very small, only about 500 copies of each issue. One peculiar (very rare) misprint in Sweden is a variant of Spindelmannen #7, 1986, which has a couple of the middle pages printed with icelandic text! I still wonder if Iceland has a similar variant with swedish text in the middle.

     

    Damn! :o:o:o 500? :o Wow, could be the rarest copper age foreign Spideys in existence up there with the taglog ones.... hm

     

    Some new information: The usual print run was about 1400 copies, but since the market is what it is on Iceland, they tried to lower the print run over time. Does this mean that there are a number of 'leftover' copies in NM condition stored somewhere? Usually such copies are sent away for destruction, but surely it couldn't be that difficult to find storage for a small amount of copies...

    Six different now: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Israel, Greece and Greece. Searching for issues from Colombia (Greco #27) and Mexico (Macc #4, that one was sold on eBay some time ago, I lost). Of the two greek versions, the first one (lower right) is the best, it's in color. The second version is black-and-white and also the epilogue page is omitted. Blasphemy!
