Grading is complete and this book came back at a 9.6 WP which I think everyone was on the same wavelength on. This was pressed so I doubt anything can be done about those corners. I figured as much, but thought why not give it a shot and see if 9.8 comes back?

Looks no worse than bindery defect to me. I take it this your comic? Give yourself permission to remove it from the mylar! Go on, you know you want to!!!
Oh man, I totally want to but the OCD in me wants to keep it sealed. It came with a COA which I assume is negligible when grading.

So 9.6 or lower. Thanks!

Can we get pics of the whole book?
Whoops, hadn't thought that through. I forgot I already packed it up for grading and my wife dropped it off already by the time I got home. Unfortunately no pics available of the rest of the book. Sorry!

Yes and no. The book is in a mylar bag and there's a tamper seal on it. It just happened to ship split like that so I took a pic of it. I will try to nab shots in the bag when I'm home.

Possibly a MFG defect from the cover-folding process.
I see. The pic looks worse than what it is in real life as I zoomed I really close. It's probably about 2mm in length along the spine. I checked my other books and they have similar spine wear Iike this if not as pronounced. Will that factor into grading

Heavily hyped Spawn if Venom for over a year if I remember correctly. There's a lot of copies out there.
Yeah I found it odd that a book with so many 9.8s on the census is worth so much but it's a strange market these days. I do need Spawn 1 which is thankfully several times less expensive, but still more than what I thought it'd be.

Two things - first, congrats on the 9.8! Second - what? A Kraft macaroni box?? Like a cardboard box that a bunch of Mac and Cheese came in? I'm confused but it made me laugh.
Thanks! 362 and 363 also came back 9.8 white pages. These are more keepsakes from when my brothers and I were kids and I sent them in thinking maybe 9.0s and mostly wanting to preserve them and give to my brother as a present. It's just cool they're 9.8s; they'll never leave the family.
As for the box, I had another look and I was mistaken all these years.
It is in fact a cardboard box that Fiesta-brand plastic cutlery came in, with a lid made of the lower carton of a case of Kraft parmesan cheese that happened to fit . It fits copper/modern books perfectly.
They were stored stacked on top of each other since around 1990 when my brothers and I first started buying comics. I think we have reader copies of these in a "pack your s***, you're fired" banker's box that I'll send in someday just to preserve.

Just curious, did you clean the fingerprints?
Yeah, they were very fresh fingerprints as I'd forgotten to put gloves on before taking those pics, so I very very gently cleaned them with a lint-free cloth. I put it through pressing even though it probably didn't need one, as I assumed they'd also clean any residual off and it was worth the extra few bucks to guarantee a higher grade rather than having to send it back.

Looks like they ignored this weird defect and it came back 9.8 white pages!

Old thread but I finally my books are on their way back from CGC and it was 9.8 white pages. Pretty happy with that!

9.4 as well. The bottom left corner is my concern.
Hmm, I will have a closer look at that corner. Seems like the white creasing is more prominent there, but I think it's because there's some black there. Thanks for the grade!

My bet is on it's the natural crease created when the book was bound and folded due to the paper stock.
Great cover. Thanks for posting.
Awesome, thanks so much!

very tight copy...slight spine roll on the wrap... The "white" on the spine may be part production...not sure if it's common with this issue...
minimum 9.4 but likely higher after C&P
I'm not sure how common it is either. I had a look at my 9.6 and it has similar white along the edge, but maybe very slightly less prominent. Thanks for the grade!

So I received the comic and it looks pretty bad in person. I kind of wondered why he didn't take more pics and assured me the back was fine. Pages all seem fine but the cover to me looks rough. There's even a patch of colour missing from the front. I know this is a 23 year old comic, but to me it doesn't look "mint" as the description stated. Am I out to lunch?

Thanks all! I ended up ordering it and will post more pics. I just sent a submission to CGC so I probably won't get this graded for a bit.

9.0+ IMO.
Thanks! For clarification do you mean 9.0 or at least a 9.0 possibly higher?

Last picture, those fingerprints are brutal. You have to get a dry clean, and have them evaluate for a press at that time. It has been several years since I have submitted books, but when I was, ther eis no way that would get above 9.4 with those fingerprints.
Good to know. Thanks!

Yeah I had a closer look an they got the corners pretty much square again but there was a white mark on the spine I didn't see before that probably was what actually brought it down to 9.6. 9.8s seem difficult to find in this book.
