  1. Roy congrats, you have to crack this just to witness the history first hand. Would be a shame to keep it in a slabb.

    I am seriously considering it.

    hm

When you resub, remember to not send the old label in. KEEP 'EM GUESSING!

The old label has NO bearing on how it grades second time around. You can trust me on that.

    (thumbs u

I meant for the census. :)

  2. Hi! I just added Blonde Phantoms 12, 14 and 15 to my sales thread here:

    http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2887062#Post2887062

    All CGC blue label!

I also have a Four Color 9 (Pirate Gold) CGC 7.5 if anyone is interested. I can put it up as well.

Is the FC 9 a blue label? (hoping for purple at that grade)

Nope, Blue. I picked it up at a Heritage auction a few months back. I hate to part with it, but ...

  3. Steve Summers( the director of Gi joe) 3 Mummy movies made more money then the 3 X-men movies combined.

It will outgross the first x-men movie. There are more GI JOE fans then X-men fans.

They have 3 gi joe movies planned. This is were Snake Eyes gets his due.

I see GI JOE 1 as a key. YO JOE!

There're 3 planned? Can I read about this somewhere? That's pretty good news if the studio is committed to all 3. Makes for possibly more thought spent on how to do these very well.

QUAID confirms 3 gi joes planned

there are other links around just google them.

I don't have anything to say about this except "COOL!"

That and I am tired of looking at your sig: "if they cheat on there wives, there is a good chance they will cheat on grading your comics!"

    It's their wives. :)

  4. I was reading on the GCG site and they say you can not spray your books with protectants. How is this fair. If I buy a new book and spray, the spray will help it avoid smudges on the spine and help to advoid scratches. What is wrong with this? It is just like polishing your car, not only does it make it look better but it also protects. I thought restrotation could only take place after a book is damaged. How is protection restoration?

Fair or not, GCG gets to tell you what you can and can't do to your books. In fact, they're not even your books. You are just holding them for GCG until you slab them, at which time (if you read the fine print), ownership in the book switches to the GCG. That's why you can't spray your books, I mean GCG's books. GCG doesn't want you spraying their !

You are adding a physical composition to the book that was not part of the manufacture. Pretty simple, realy.

What about the oils from my skin when I touch it? Or humidity in storage? Pen marks and glue are considered resto depending on the assumed intent. Tape is sometimes considered a defect, etc.

    It's completely arbitrary.

  5. I posted this in the original art forum, but I thought it fit here as well. I recently won this great Golden Age cover and interior pages on Ebay. It is from the 1952 Harvey political comic "Strong for the People"

It tells the story of Dave Strong, a socially aware and patriotic young man from the midwest who gets elected to serve as a representative in congress in Washington D.C., where he learns about the legislative process and sponsors a bill which gets passed into law. The last page has an appearance by Uncle Sam. Each interior page came with a hand painted color guide with editorial notes.

Holy crud, that's a nice set. Where the heck did you find that?

  6. A couple of weeks ago, I posted a picture of an original drawing from Uncle Scrooge 42. I pointed out that this was the earliest published "Uncle Scrooge" page known to exist. The survival of this page has been somewhat of an enigma to all the Barks experts I've consulted.

The page was unknown to collectors until it surfaced at an auction in 1998. At the time, it had white-out pasted between all the panels. This was later removed by the buyer who had it professionally restored. The picture below shows a tiny fleck that was left behind. Note that the empty space between the panels appears brighter: this is because the whiteout protected the paper from the sunlight. Until last week, noone could explain why the whiteout was there.

One of my friends told a long time Barks fan about this and she came up with an explanation that I think is absolutely brilliant. I would never have thought of this in a million years, but it makes perfect sense.

This is probably the most difficult Duck related riddle anyone ever asked on the boards, but if someone can explain the purpose of the white-out I'll be extremely impressed.

    Wow. You've piqued my curiosity!

You should submit this to Car Talk as a Puzzler. :)

  7. Initially, I'd have to say the Bats 1 because it's unrestored high grade.

But wow. I've never had an Action 1, and I have a frankenbook Bats 1, so I think based on that alone, I'd have to go with the Action 1.

(All my picks so far seem to have been the books with less definite future value. Hmm.)

  8. Cap 2 vs. Action 2:

    Cap 2 DEFINITELY.

I'm a GA Cap collector, and my #2 is nowhere near that 7.5, even with the chunk out of the bottom.

    Startling vs. 'Tec:

This one is harder for me. I think I'd go with the Startling, for love of the Schomburg cover, and the fact that I already have a nice 'Tec 38, but a 9.4 Startling just doesn't come along that often.

Although, when it comes to holding value, I think the 'Tec might be better.
