It looks from here that #3 and #5 are worth doing the C&P / slab if that's what you want to do.

I was almost there with #9 but it has the sun-fade strip. If you look at the CGC census on these, I would draw the line

at 7.0... although there are quite a few under that, it looks like around 7.0 is where I'd need to expect in order to do it.

you could brush them off with a makeup pad, then scan those and put them up here for a consensus

See! That’s why I’m here. To see what the more knowledgeable people thing. I’ve never thought of the makeup pad trick and didn’t know scanning and posting was an option. It’s as much an experiment for me to see the results of pressing as an investment thing but I would at least like to break even. So I’ll probably brush off the best one and scan a “before” pic. Probably #3 because I really like the cover. I have some credit so I’ll be using house money.

    thx for the input!

Unless it’s iron man #1… I wouldn’t bother pressing and grading. You won’t get your ROI but I do really like the cover on issue 3… a nice Mylar bag will do these raw copies wonders.

Yeah I like that issue too. I have some cgc credit and thought about submitting that one as an experiment since I’ve never owned any silver aged comics. They only cost me 5$ a piece (bought because they looked interesting) so I don’t have much into them but I saw that they fall into a different tier/cost because of age.

Just to provide a little value info, in CGC 8.0

    #2  recently sold for $169
    #3  recently sold for $160
    #4   recently sold for $79
    #5  recently sold for $100
    #6   recently sold for $79
    #7  recently sold for $79
    #9  recently sold for $140

Hmmm. I have a 150$ credit so it just may be worth the effort for 4 of them. That was really helpful. This may be my experiment with silver age comics to get an idea of what the benefit of pressing and the resulting grade.

  4. Hello everyone! I got my hands on these at a parking lot sale for about 5$ a piece and want your opinion. Are they worth the expenditure of pressing/grading? I’ve submitted a few comics for either sig series or personal attachment but I’ve heard these old comics are viewed a little differently regarding condition. Any input is appreciated. Thx!

Maybe take some pics and post on the "Hey buddy, can you spare a grade" thread and get an idea of how much they are worth if it's investment you're thinking.

Thanks for the advice. I took pics and will head there now.

  6. Hello people!

I got my paws on Iron Man 2-7, 9 and am wondering if they are worth pressing and grading? I only paid about 5$ a piece (parking lot sale purchase) so I don’t have much into them. They aren’t destroyed or tore up but they do have wear. (I should have taken pictures).

    thanks for any input!
