  1. Looking thru this thread I feel very poor.... I never knew that many high grade old XMen are out there. Im tryin for a full run #1 - #300. Most left to get are #1-#100...tryin to go for mostly raw 7.0 or better.

I noticed alot of XMen collectors are happy with lower grade books from earlier run. Is the older books better to get graded ones or not graded??

I think that's probably a combination of personal preference and depth of your wallet. Some prefer raw, some prefer slabbed. Do you want to be able to flip through it or showcase a higher grade copy? All up to you, in my opinion.

  2. i got crushed on the x-men #79 9.2...went for $600 :(

:o Sorry that you didn't win the book that you wanted, beancurd.

    I'm really shocked!

I mean, when I saw that Scottie was selling off everything all in one day, I was thinking that he would saturate the market. I estimate that the #2 through #66 total sale was $35k to $40k total. (very rough, assumes an average of about $600 each)

I thought that the relatively few collectors that could afford books of those grades would not be able or willing to bid on more than a few and that this would limit bidding on some books. I was wrong!

In a way, I'm happy that there is so much demand and available cash for high-grade X-Men books. Perhaps the X-Men title is doing better than I realized. I need to get working on that price index study. It's so overdue.

From the ones I was bidding on, it looks like the silver and bronze age ones went for pretty good prices, while the copper were average or below average except the keys and rare ones.

  3. For board members that had dealings with daken2626, there appears to be some hope, the tracking # he/she provided about 2 weeks ago is showing as valid on the USPS website. It gives the following message:

    Status: Acceptance

Your item was accepted at 10:25 AM on October 11, 2007 in EAST CHICAGO, IN 46312. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

  4. I paid $30 for books for three books off the same thread and have yet to receive them.

Here is the PM I received from him on 9/29:

Sorry for the delay, I was in a severe car accident and totaled my girlfriend's car...but here is your delivery confirmation number #0306 3030 0003 3038 4415

to check the status got to http://www.usps.com

Thanks again and be on the lookout for more great deals!!

Similar story, I sent Daken a PM a few weeks back asking about status and received the same response as you guys. Still waiting for package to arrive ... :baiting:

  5. At least 3 rows deep x 7 high x 5 long boxes per section x at least 3 shelves :P:o is what 315+ long boxes. How many books can you fit in a long box?

I think a better question is is that room (warehouse) climate controlled?

hm That's the first thing that popped in my head. But it's nothing a large AC unit couldn't handle so as long as there's something, then you're ok.

  6. Fellow Mutants

Since X-Men #1 auctions are pretty much always of interest. Take a look at this.

Back when the bidding was a LOT lower, I was actually looking at this. As I was examining the photos to try to get a rough grade (I even PM'd the good Doctor Watson for a 2nd opinion), I noticed that Marvel Girl's hand is right up against the right edge. DW pointed out that Cyclop's head is cut off. I don't know, do you guys think this was chopped on the right edge and top?

It's a close call because of the miswrap, but I'm leaning towards thinking that it has been chopped on the right. The top, despite Cyclop's head being cut, seems like it could just be the miswrap or a little of both.

  7. I like 9.6 books too. After all, I can't really tell the difference between 9.6 and 9.8 anyway. :gossip:

I've had the same experience, many of my 9.6's look like 9.8's to me. Actually if you look in the Comic grading forum, in the 9.0-10.0 thread I posted my scans of X-Men 164 in 9.6 and 9.8. The 9.6 actually looks better than the 9.8. Probably won't be able to tell in the scans but it just does.

And when the 9.6 looks just as good as a 9.8, I can't seem to justify the crazy premiums for SA 9.8's

  8. I completely agree with you about the new PM system. It's much easier, faster, and just plain better to be able to breeze through the whole conversation in one place.

Another thing that I've found to be quite nice is the "Preview Reply" feature that loads right on the same page as the edit box. With the old system, the preview would be displayed on a second page that you would have to wait for. Now you can just tap that preview button for a quick idea of what it's going to look like, then keep on typing your post without leaving the edit box.
