Scooby-Doo is kind of weird, there are 3 different publishers for that series, and it's difficult to get information about the Whitman copies.

On top of that, some issues do not have the dash in the the title.

I was thinking about changing the title of the Gold Key set in order to include the Whitman Copies.  Go ahead and make your request, and I will see what I can do.

    Thanks!

Does it matter if they are in the "Custom Set" portion?

Not at all.  However, we will be putting more emphasis on Custom Sets going forward.

Interesting descriptions, plenty of images, and originality are the top priorities when we choose Award Winners.

  4. If you take a look at this year's winners, you will see that we put a premium on sincere passion for the hobby.

@Daffaholic's set is everything we look for in a Custom Set.  It still amazes me what can be accomplished in the Collector's Society if someone has a mind to express their love for comic collecting.

For me, this image alone was enough, I never watched the series, but I absolutely love the artwork!

  5. OK, I have completed my post Awards tasks.

    Let the 2024 Season begin!

I will devote the next few weeks catching up on requests.  Please keep in mind that I do all add fails by hand as well, so bear with me.

Once I get sufficiently caught up, I will create a new thread just for set edits/corrections.  I know there are some sets out there that need attention.  I will do my best to make them right.

A few thoughts about the Registry:

My philosophy is, if someone takes the time, money and effort to submit their comic books to CGC, those books should, and will, be added to the Registry.  I have received a number of complaints about obscure foreign variants, and retail sub variants in certain sets.  I am more than willing to mark those variants as Non Competitive.  The Non Competitive designation gives 1 point across the board, and I am pretty sure that non competitive books do not affect the completion percentage of the set that it's in. I will have to test to confirm.

Scoring adjustments will be done twice a year.  Note that Registry Points do not equate to market dollars. Books will be scored as follows:

Non key books before 2015 will be scored at 3 for Universal 9.0 (the minimum raw cover price)

Non key books after 2015 will be scored at 4 for Universal 9.0

Keys, and vintage books will be scored according to Overstreet Access 9.2 (for Universal 9.2)

Due to the size and scope of the Registry, this is the most efficient way to keep track of scoring.  Also, I only have write access to the Universal scoring Table, all other scores are weighed by the census algorithm.

We will be expanding the number of Awards for Custom and Sig Series Sets next year,.  If you feel that a particular Competitive set is too constricting, or not to your liking, feel free to create a Custom Set!  We will be working with the Sig Series Team in the future to bring some exciting marketing campaigns!

    Edit:

    One more thing:

Newsstand Editions will get their own slot in Complete with Variant Sets.  CGC is allowing customers to resubmit Newsstand Editions that do not have the designation on the label.  Resubmitted book entries in the database will have the Newsstand Designation in the Pedigree Field.  (This prevents a new Comic ID from being generated.)  However, the Pedigree Field is not currently part of the Registry Search function.  I will be creating a separate slot with "Newsstand" in the title, and populating that slot with the first run issue.  Newly submitted Newsstand variants will be treated as a stabdard variant..

This doesn’t seem to be true.  I have just recently tried to add my Terminator 12 newsstand to a direct slot and it has been rejected every single time.  The result was a newsstand slot was created and the book was added there.  I knew this newsstand business was going to be an issu

The direct slot for #12 wasn't populated.  That slot is populated now.

Like I said, this isn't the most optimal solution.  I would prefer to have the Newsstand designation in the Variant field, where it belongs.  Due to the nature of the database, populating the Variant field in an existing entry creates a new Comic ID.  However, the Pedigree field is not recognized in the Registry Search.

  7. Final Picks have been made.

Winners will be announced July 21st.

Between now and then, I will be doing some much needed maintenance in the Collector's Society.

I am looking forward to the official announcement. There was stiff competition this year.  I think this year's winners represent the very best the Comic Registry has to offer.

Again, thank you to everyone that participated, and contributed their thoughts and time to the 2023 Registry Awards!
