Here's a book currently listed on Comiclink. It's in a slab belonging to CGC's esteemed competitor.

Restored label; label notes are Moderate (A): moderate color touch, edge trimmed, piece added.

 

Don't worry overly about the trimming & c/t, and just grade based on the scans:

 

1) What apparent grade would you give this book, and

 

2) What apparent grade do you think PGX gave it? (no peeking at the 'Link site!)

well with that much tape I'm gonna give it a 3.0, but I'm bettin' that PGX gave the book a 4.0.

Is that true? I would think "apparent" would mean you'd still grade on what you see...and I still see a bunch of tape. If it has restoration that makes it look better, then the apparent grade would be higher, but the tape doesn't do that.

 

I'd say it looks like a 3.0.

It's about a 3.5 PGX = 4.5 Possibly 5.0 But doubtful....

I don't hate tape if it's holding a piece of the book on that I would otherwise lose...but I don't like THAT kind of tape...(however, I admit, I own much worse and I still love them..

I used to ignore ANY book with tape, but lately, if it has not seeped through & turned brittle already I have been more accepting of it on GA books.

 

I'd pay a couple hundred for that book...

Can't be more than 3.0 with that much tape. I can see PGX calling a 4.0 though.

Since you posted it PGX must have bumped it (4.5) or killed it (1.8/2.0).

Well I was pretty close. But PGX is crazy.. No way this book is bought by me raw or slabbed as a {A} Moderate 5.0 3.5 Maybe...... But 5.0!?! Don't think so....

Based on the scan, I was going to grade it a 2.5. 3.0 tops.
