My Copper Collection

96 posts in this topic

I did this once on the general comics board, but it was a long time ago. I've been scanning all my books, and have a pretty cool collection of Copper Age books. Since none of my friends collect comics, I'll post them here and hopefully some of you will appreciate or like the books. Feel free to make a comment, or ignore me! :acclaim:

I've already posted these several times, but let's start with the letter A. Here is Adventurers #1 with covers by Peter Hsu (both the regular cover & the variant cover):

and the final "A", The Adventurous Uncle Scrooge McDuck #2, inscribed to me and signed by Don Rosa:

Nice Adventurers!

I have GOT to find the box I put all my defunct B&W series books in...I would love to see that Hsu art again.... Can you believe the amount of B&W stuff we bought in the 80's?? It blows my mind, heh.

Nice Books!! I bought a lot of Peter Hsu stuff in the 80s as well I cant remember the name of the title it was some half nekkid woman running around in the future or the Barbaric past or something, I just know I justified the Soft porn to my wife saying it was just comics for my collection and not the same as penthouse or one of those othe mens mags! She never bought my reasoning and I ended up tossing them in the late 80s. Wish I would have kept them! Any one remember that title??

I'm a big fan of "The Adventurers" and its ilk (Star Rangers, Elf Warrior, etc.). I think it was one of your earlier posts that got me to go through the long boxes and pull out my old issues. I then started to fill in the holes of those runs which is surprisingly easy and cheap to do.

Copper age treasures. :cloud9:

I grew up in a small town (500 people) and we only had 2 general stores there (certainly no comic shops). The only comics they sold was Archie, Richie Rich and some Disney stuff. When I finished high school and moved away for secondary education I moved to a bigger center that had comic stores. I remember the first time I walked in there....I was amazed.

The shop had 2 full walls of comics hanging and the issue I remember the most is Tec 426. The minute I saw it I asked the owner to take it down for me (you were not permitted to touch the comics haha) I think I paid around $20 for it. I also bought the Magnus vs Predator issues, Rai 0, 1 - 4, Solar 9 & 10, ASM 129 and 238. From that day on I was hooked on super hero books.

Seeing your Tec 426 sent me way back to those days (1992). I look forward to seeing more.

And of one my favorite series as a teen. Loved the stories and artwork at first, but it lost it's steam around issue 12:

For the first 8 or 10 issues, this was my favorite book! The Nutty Squirrel backups were even hilarious!

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Here is a book I won from Heritage about 2 weeks ago:

This is a tough book in high grade. One of my collecting goals is to get a 9.8 and to get a copy (not the 9.8) signed by everyone involved. I still need about 1/2 the signatures; Stephen King is going to be a tough one. One of my all-time favorite covers.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? That is a beautiful copy.

Thanks - it's one of my favorite Sienkiewicz covers, and the book looks great.

It was fairly cheap - after buyers premium, I think I paid about $40.
