Heritage points to wrong GPA data

8 posts in this topic

I'm watching a Four Color #16 CGC 8.5 (2d series) in the August auction. Clicking on the GPA link in the auction takes you to a pretty misleading page for an unsuspecting buyer. The GPA screen mixes the sales for the Series 1 and Series 2 issues of #16. Series 1 #16 was the first Mickey by Dell and an 8.5 last sold for $24k. A series 2 #16 had its highest issue in GPA sell for $212 last.

It goes 8.5-6.5 all Series 1, then 5.5 (S2), then S1 again and so on. A couple of clues that point one to the confusion. 1) There is more than 1 price on certain grades (4.0 & 2.0). 2) Clicking on the alt census shows the census for the S1 books and the regular census shows the S2 books. Heritage notes only 1 in 8.5 and none higher and that is reflected only in the S2 census. The S1 census has a 9.2. Finally, the census reports show the correct publication years for each series of books.

Just an interesting tidbit when checking GPA through the Heritage link. Someone without a GPA subscription could easily be confused as to the price data.

They'll be updating the way they show our data as they now will have access to an XML feed. But FYI, the "Publisher" column has linked data - hover over where it says "Dell Publi.." and you'll see:

Dell Publishing Co. vol 1 print 1 1941, etc

Hey Scott, unfortunately this specific issue (multiple published years/volumes/etc) is due to the way we send the data to the heritage page and not something they can change. With the recent xml feed we've built for them they'll be able to format the info in a better way to represent such comic data. It's a matter of time until they implement it at their end.

Thanks George. By the way, I really prefer the new GPA 2.0 features and layout. Fewer clicks necessary to look up multiple issues in a title, and much faster than before. Good stuff! (thumbs u

Yes it does George. This is such a limited # of titles that would be affected anyway that I brought it up more as a curiosity.

Heritage is still guilty of reflecting 'old' census data with their auction listings.

They give census numbers that do not include the book they are selling, as quite often the book is a Heritage submission slab.

And I have seen cases where they have 3-4 deep of an issue in a particular grade.

But they will not amend quoted census figures to reflect their listing/holdings.
