as for the Adams/Cardy Superman cover. Looks like Cardy to me.

 

And that original art piece is interesting. The artwork is very different from the published cover. The cat is in 2 different positions. Superman's head is different. Frankly, I think the artwork is either a recreation OR the original as drawn by Cardy, but reworked by the DC bullpen prior to publishing. Maybe Neal assisted in redrawing Supes' face and the cat (leading to his association with this cover) .. but neither looks like his work,

actually, the artwork lookms a lot like Swan. Could he have layed out the cover for Julie, who then hired Cardy to draw it... and years later, Swan redrew his creation for someone who added the statted logs??

That would be my guess as well - look at the inked cross-hatching on Supes' legs - that fine detail looks a lot like Neal's work.
