More eBay format change stupidity

27 posts in this topic

EDIT: Looks like the "new format" pages are not in broad use, yet, so my pages look normal using the links below. If you get a chance to look at the new format for your own listings, be sure to click on the "tell us what you think" link at the top of the page and complain the pictures are too small.

------

So I finally get a chance to look around at my listings after the format change. My store listings used to have nice big pictures, displayed at actual size. The format change has eliminated them, and all the pictures are now shown much smaller than original size.

For example, item 37014359732

Here's the actual image: Big Photobucket Image

The big image used to appear at the end of the listing with the "view larger picture" link under the thumbnail taking you there. Now this link just opens a slightly larger "pop-over". It sucks.

Anyone know how to get the big images back short of embedding the images in the HTML of your listings? At least I assume that still works in store listings since I did that in this auction without any trouble, but I am not looking forward to hand editing all my store items.

The reason ask the board is because I already asked eBay support. Should have known better.

All my listings used to show my item images actual sized. Now, all the

pictures are very small, including the "show larger image" link. Why

have you done this? What do I have to do to get all my big pictures

back, and don't tell me I have to hand-edit my 200 store items.

And I get this back:

Dear Chris,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to the pictures in your My eBay

being small.

Chris, I certainly understand your concern and I'll be glad to assist

you.

From what you have said, it sounds like the display settings of your

computer have changed I would suggest you change your screen resolution.

Here' how:

1. Open Display in Control Panel.

2. On the Settings tab, under Screen resolution, drag the slider, and

then click Apply.

3. When prompted to apply the settings, click OK. Your screen will turn

black for a moment.

4. Once your screen resolution changes, you have 15 seconds to confirm

the change. Click Yes to confirm the change; click No or do nothing to

revert to your previous setting.

Chris, please note that a higher screen resolution reduces the size of

items on your screen and increases the relative space on your desktop.

Your monitor and video adapter determine how much you can change your

screen resolution. You may not be able to increase the resolution above

a certain level. Changes to screen resolution affect all users that log

on to the computer.

Only the recommended screen resolutions are listed. For additional

settings, click the Advanced button on the Settings tab, click the

Adapter tab, and then click List all Modes. Select the resolution, color

level, and refresh rate you want.

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reply to this

email and let us know.

Sincerely,

Nikita D.

Did you link to the right auction? The DD117 looks big to me. (shrug)

Really? That's really good to hear.

It is showing you the old-style store page or the new-style store listing page? The old style looks a lot like the auction listing I posted, with the big picture at the end. The new stlye has the layout and fonts all different.

The DD looks big to me too. The scan size in both links looks the same.

Maybe the display settings of your computer have changed, and you need to change your screen resolution. :)

Oh, that's gooooood...

In the top right hand corner click on "switch to the new version of this page". You are all correct, the old version is fine.

I don't have that option anywhere, which, apparently, is a good thing.

See if that option is available on one of your own store items. Maybe it's just available on your own stuff to preview the horror that is to come.

Like ckb says, this is one of the big changes in the "new & improved" ebay listing format - and it's actually pretty darn awful.

If I'm selling cheap books on ebay, I usually only include one large scan - seeing that ebay's gallery function allows you to link to an image on a different server (instead of uploading the image to ebay), I usually just link to my large scan as the gallery image. This way I get a full-size image at the bottom of the listing, and I don't have to deal with adding any images in the HTML description.

But that's, unfortunately, not the case with the new listing format - it limits the size of the gallery image, and even when clicking "view larger image" you still get an image much smaller than previously.

Here are some screenshots for y'all ...

Old ebay listing format:

avengers200-oldebay.jpg

New ebay listing format:

avengers200-newebay.jpg

New ebay listing format - after clicking "view large image":

feebay can blow a big fat slong!

:P

(tsk)

The proper spelling is schlong.

I thought it would be spoon'ed here...

:P

Of course not. It has nothing to do with Tracy; Ayers; or Van Dyke. Those must be vanquished.
