Yup, the gloves are off the minute high quality items are up for grabs. It just gets so competetive and there's such a pressure to buy before everyone else finds out that everybody goes nuts!! I was not at all surprised by the Ian/Metro thread after collecting NES - same thing just on a smaller scale. Fought over just as viciously; just at lower price levels as the participants are younger and have less disposable income. You could take that $12,000 more fun deal, change it to a $1200 NES deal and keep the rest of the -script 100% intact insane.gif

Can you imagine what chuckles must have felt like after his first viewing of the Church books? He must have spent that entire week between the viewing and paying for the books praying to god on his hands and knees that no other dealers would get a look at the find. One phone call by the churches to another dealer would have done him in because as soon as you have two guys, you have a bidding war. boo.gif

Pez originated in Austria in 1927 and they entered the US market in 1952. There are many Pez containers that have high values. A Make-A Face Pez on card will run you about $4000 and features numerous eyes and parts for kids to play with. They also issued a series of monster Pez which included The Creature and Frankenstein to name a few.

"What is today eBay started out in 1995 when Pierre Omidyar created something he called AuctionWeb. He didn't start out with a fancy business plan. Instead, AuctionWeb was the result of two things.

Omidyar wanted to explore the Web a bit to see how it might be used for business. Probably more important, his girlfriend, Pam, wanted to find a way to trade Pez dispensers beyond the local area. What later became a successful business started out as a hobby."

And the rest....is history. Thanks Pam!
