Mile High is BUYING!

123 posts in this topic

I browsed through some of their buy list and, say what you like, he's paying some decent prices for some comics that otherwise I'm not sure would sell for anywhere approaching those prices anywhere else.

I'm considering sending in a box...

Jim

An empty box?

lol

No...I'm serious. He'll pay $4 for Blink 1-3? $7.50 for a VF copy of Amazing Spider-Man #36 and $3 each for 32-35?

To me it's worth getting rid of some comics...

Fair enough - but why would anyone (at least who knows comics) sell them a NM copy of either ASM #36 or New Mutants #98 right now??? Ebay offers a chance of twice his prices...

Then again, he wants to pay me $2 each for my Dark Tower: Gunslinger books that I am trying to sell here for $1 apiece!

lol

My thought was that you can build a better client base by having a better selection of books and offering more reasonable pricing. Then again I have never ran a retail store.

It depends on where you are, some markets are just run solely on the new comics business plus other new items. Back issues are often only recorded as bringing in less than 10% of a stores business but it requires a ton of labor, capital, supplies, etc. to maintain so many stores have gotten rid of them.

Then again, I do have a store.

They wouldn't...but maybe Chuck is banking on people not being savvy about the market...

Last issues can be a bitch to find...

OK, but he is still only paying $3 for issue #50

50 $0.10 $0.25 $0.50 $0.90 $1.50 $3.00

Why the huge price on #48? Very limited distribution?

It's all about the cover. It's the only Alf book I know of that anyone even looks out for.

I have one, purely due to it's legendary board status

I know that the only LCS in Denver that I have found that is worth a chit will only give 30% of book value.

-----------------------------------------

Depending on the book, 30% of book value is not unreasonable.

Unless you mean "fair market value", which increasingly has little to do with what that annual book says.

Ha...f'ing joke is what being offered 30% is on VF+ SA and BA books!

Just my opinion I guess.

30% is decent if selling raw to the retail trade. Not brilliant, but decent.

If all of the books are at least VF+, and all of the books are SA and early BA, and all of the books are 1st or 2nd tier titles...then you should expect more.

But on your average SA/BA box of goodies for sale? Take the 30%. (thumbs u

Yep. Take it. Everybody wins.

A box of mid-grade common SA books is like a goldmine to Chuckles. They'll all show up as NM on the site.

It's just....sometimes, the ballstothewall arrogance just...it just gets to you sometimes, dunnit?

"Blah blah blah, he can charge whatever he wants, blah blah blah, he can buy for whatever someone's willing to sell, etc etc etc"

But doesn't the UN-MITIGATED GALL, the chutzpah and just sheer arrogance of the guy ever bother anyone else....?

"Our grading is very strict."

No. No, it's not. It's not at all. It's some of THE WORST grading in the industry.

Un-freakin-believable.

Just makes you sad for the future of humanity, no?

Yes it does bother me, especially when he's listed as an advisor to the OSGG.
