Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer... Is it THAT bad?

What really pizzed me off about FF2 was that it used my all time favorite FF arc as the story line and messed it up.

But all in all it does grow on you with multiple watching.

I've liked most of the Marvel movies that have come out recently (IM, Hulk, Spideys) but the first FF4 movie just made me cringe.

Then get ready for some serious cringing. I found FF1 awful and FF2 unwatchable, the nadir of big screen Marvel movies, perhaps even of the whole genre.

While FF4: 2 wasn't the greatest, it did serve to re-invigorate my love for comics again. While I was still buying a few books on a monthly basis, seeing the surfer just conjured up the great memories of reading my dad's copies of FF 48, 49, and 50 (along with a number of other silvers) over and over again.

From there, I started buying currents again, and now I'm a hook, line, and sinker CGC member that has two submissions in the hopper.

Wait a minute. I think I've fallen prey to a marketing scheme!

Damn you, Marvel, I want my money back! :slapfight:

I actually kind of liked the movie. I agree it gets better with each installment. Of course, I would have preferred a much greater emphasis on Silver Surfer. The movie was incredibly short (something like 87 minutes). I think it should have gone into detail of Norrin Raad's origin/sacrifice. They didn't develop his character any where near enough for my liking. The lack of Character development was I found lacking...

Regardless, the more super-hero movies there are, the better IMO (thumbs u

I liked both the FF movies and I agree that the second one was way too short with not enough character development. Regardless , I picked up copies of each and have watched them many times. Galactus was very anticlimatic and the money they saved by taking that route cost them millions in return trips and DVD sales.I don't want to sound banal...but an old man asked me once, when I was younger, when he saw me doing a half job, if when I made love did I only go in half the way. That really stuck with me over the years. With FF 2, Marvel only went in half the way. As for the Hulk...I loved both of them. GOD BLESS...

I love the movie and have watched it with the nieces a dozen times. Can watch the Surfer fly through that building a 100 times and how he takes the Torch to space by the throat is so cool. I'm looking forward to future movies with Surfer cameos.

Totally agree. I thought the scripting for FF1 was like something for a Saturday morning cartoon. And the Things big transformation, shaking under the sheets one minute, and watching him through a broken window running away the next. Galactus... in the second movie. I'm going to the bathroom to puke.

I saw FF 2 on a flight home from Rome. I got sick on that same flight about an hour later. Probably didn't have anything to do with the movie though.

Probably.

It seems to me ( and its just an opinion ) that when hollywood makes these movies, that they are geared too much for the general public, and not comic book fans. Those of us who grew up reading these great stories from Fantastic Four #1 when it hit the shelves, know what they would like the movie to look like. A ten year old kid who goes and sees it, thinks its cool. And maybe it is to him, because hes never read the entire run of F.F. from the begining, and neither has his mom or dad. They dont know. Now those of us dedicated comic readers know the dif. When you absolutely butcher the whole story, characters, and sequence of events, it just doesnt cut it for me. They could have done alot more with these two movies. I personally would have liked to see the Red Ghost and his Super Apes, before they went into the Silver Surfer. But again, its just my opinion. Maybe Ive just been reading comics too long, and have brain damage like the Flaming Carrot. lol

OK, so I gave it another watch recently and I really disliked it first time around, but this time - I discovered subtle things that I liked about it... Do you guys really think it was THAT bad?

I think the Silver Surfer looked pretty sick.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.......Enjoy what you do,....don't what you don't.... (shrug)
