Markers, Sharpies and Paint! Oh my!

so with all these are supplies people are using to sign books these days. are they actually going to destroy are books over time?

 

is there going to be a deterioration of the book in a plastic case like these GI Joe Figures which are blisters with C3PO break aparts in them?

I'm no chemist, but I do find it hard to believe that paper that has already been coated/saturated with ink will get damaged much by the application of additional ink/paint/marker.

I guess it would depend on the type of ink? I could be completely wrong but I think some inks / paints may be more chemical intensive than others.
