Steve Ditko

And I can't believe the hubris and sense of entitlement of some folks who feel like an old man owes them something just because he drew some comic books 45 years ago. rantrant

Maybe Stan Lee should do the same thing? No?

What does that even mean?? You should stop drinking turpentine.

Actually you should, you have a ridiculous combative attitude that no one gives 2 sheets to care about.

Your probably the type of person that surfs these forums and looks for a thread to talk trash in.

Sean, grow up, I seen the thread with Desert Wind and he has every right to speak his opinion on this forum just like I do. You don't like it, to bad, post your smirky little comments in a PM to yourself, maybe you'd be the only one that responds to it.

You are what lurks on the bottom of ones shoe.

Did you seen it? I seen it to. It was awesome.

I'll break it down for you. I love liberty. It is a concept upon which our country and our entire governmental and jurisprudential systems are based. When you post things, ridiculous things about how Steve Ditko is "elfish and self centered," you are trampling his liberty. He doesn't owe you any autographs. He doesn't owe anyone anything. It is the beauty of our way of life.

When you say that Steve Ditko has a "pathetic way of life, this person has issues and should have never been in the comic industry, Marvel should have picked a better artist if this was going to be the outcome," I am incensed. He is pathetic and has issues because he won't give someone an autograph? He should have been banned from co-creating Spider-man because Onefastg6 on the CGC Message Boards thinks he is a poo-poo head for not providing autographs?

Are you pathetic and do you have issues if you won't do two hundred jumping jacks because I think you should?

How about if I tell you to get a better grip on the English language if you are going to type on a public message board? Are you pathetic, and do you have issues if you don't do it?

Nope. That is the beauty of liberty. Fortunately, all of us are not held to the whims and desires of every simpering buffoon that believes they are owed something that they are not.

You are correct Sean Mr. Ditko does have liberties. They are provided to him by the Bill of rights. I am not sure which Number applies to the right to be left alone but it is probably in there if the text is read correctly.

Onefastg6 also has liberties provided to him by the Bill of rights aswell. That is if he is a Legal US citizen. One of those liberties or "rights" is the The Freedom of Speech and Press. Yes you are granted that same right aswell Mr. Harmon. But honestly this debate is pointless.

There are people on either side of the fence. I believe that famous people should feel fortunate and perhaps interact with their fans. I know I would if I were famous. Now with that said. There is a certain amount of respect involved on both sides. Fans should be calm, courteous, and appreciative of any celebrity when said celebrity is granting said fan access.

But I guess everybody and I mean everybody could just use the "Thumper Rule" " If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all." That would probably Fix alot of problems in the signature room.

One last thing if said celebrity will not interact with their fans and you feel strongly about this do not buy any new products they make if they are still making products. Sometimes that speaks volumes without actually saying anything.

Ditko was extremely courteous and nice to me a few years back when I asked him to do a newspaper illustration for me. He refused and sent me a very nice letter back telling me he wasn't interested in doing the illo.

He wasn't mean about it or anything and even mailed me the letter, which he totally didn't have to do. He could have just ignored my request totally and never responded, but he did and I was thankful just to get that back from him.

And just so everyone is clear: I contacted him to ask him to draw a newspaper illustration for which he would have been paid a fee just like any other artist would be paid. He would have also gotten the original art back. I wasn't seeking any autograph nor was I looking for a sketch of Spider-Man. I was trying to get a scary, Charlton-type illustration of a monster of wolfman for an article I was working on about Charlton's horror comics. I actually got his contact information from a person who was on this board at the time (not sure if he's here or not nowadays so I won't mention his name) and sent him a request and he sent me a letter back refusing the request, but in a very nice way.

I don't know how you can say that about Sean when he didn't use this smiley :slapfight: once.

Not on this site we don't.

Start by masking profanity, then posting links and detailed reviews to porn sites, and finish by quoting out of the Anarchist's cookbook on this forum and see how far wearing the Bill or Rights like a frilly shawl will get you.

That is where you so completely wrong. I will not allow someone to pillory Steve Ditko for nothing more than respectfully asking be left alone. If I can show one person that liberty, freedom, and the ability to live one's own life without undue imposition by the expectations of others are all far more important than some crybaby wannabe signature collector's desire to have a signature, then the debate has been quite pointed.

Are we still talking about Steve Ditko in the SIGNATURE room?

No we are talking about Steve Ditka...Iron Mike's reclusive TWIN brother, and renowned comic book letter column editor.

Here he is, in a rare shot taken last week, still wearing the Christmas sweater his brother gave him in 1986.

Can you imagine having Mike Ditka as your editor?

It would be AWESOME.

You could walk in there everyday and ask him "Who would win in a football game, The original Avengers line up or Coach Ditka?"

I predict Coach Ditka 124 Avengers 3....if the Hulk plays for them they score 10, but only because Da Coach has a soft spot for the Hulk.

No one wants just a "Signature" from the guy. This isn't just a business like "Dessert Winds" pointed out in his other thread that you bashed him on. We grow up collecting the books we loved, Spider-Man is this example, we would like some sort of communication with the person who made that moment in our life just a little better.

It's taking the time to meet them, say a few words, shake their hand, and obviously get a signature that would make any ones day.

I will not allow someone to pillory Steve Ditko for nothing more than respectfully asking be left alone. No one is, I voiced my opinion about his approach to us (Not his was of life). I wish the best for him and hope he may change someday for the sake of the fans.
