How is this show?

Um...

It's great if Drew's there. We found a great Athenian place for breakfast last time I was there.

:whee:

Did you guys drive downtown to Greektown? Or maybe Honey Tree on 10 Mile?

Just be there.

:sumo:

:headbang:

Breakfast at 3 am again.

:headbang:

Why, of course!!! :whee:

So, lets set something up. A dinner or something at Mexican town, great food.

I'll bet if someone loaded their IPOD up with Triumph and Saga (Oh wait, mine already is), Roy would make the trip down there. But, I'm doubting many people would want to make that drive for grub.

Maybe a little April Wine too?

Any Suggestions? We really should have a forum dinner.

Let me think about a few good places that are a little bit closer.

I'm planning on attending.

As for the Show, it was a larger show over 10 years ago in relation to comics. There are still some really good dealers that attend. I always stop by Dale's booth and Bob Storms and get something. I think buying from Dale is my longest streak there. I'm guessing I've bought something from him every year since he started there or at least since the late 90's?

Those are just 2 dealers who are good. There are others. Funny thing is, I virtually never buy from the host, Motor City. Either the books are way outside my budget or are over-priced IMO. Still a great selection but I default to Bob & Dale for a lot of my purchases. I will say their customer attitude is better. 10 years ago, unless I dealt with Mike himself, I found some of the staff dismissive and arrogant.

I was really tempted to attend more than one day this year but will probably go either Saturday or Sunday. May bring some artwork for the contest.

You should let Mike know how you feel. I know that I've humbley helped man the tables on Saturdays in the past. Mike has a crew made up of friends, not comic fans... except for Troy. And, Troy is a great guy to deal with.

Here are some ideas I have for a dinner if one can be put together:

+ BD"s Mongolian Bar-B-Q- Right near Rock. Cheap but decent food. This is a chain started here in Detroit (and elsewhere). Self serve, take food to a grill joint.

+ Famous Dave's Bar-B-Q- Also close to Rock. Decent food, Bar-B-Q, Burgers, Chicken, etc. A chain, but not too large.

+ Diamond Jim Brady's- Also close to Rock. American cuisine. Not a chain. Good food.

+ Mexican Villiage- El Zocalo, Xochimilco, or Maybe Mexican Villiage. About a 30 minute ride downtown. A cool place to go and drink and eat. Close to casinos.

+ Como's- 20-25 minutes from Rock via the freeway. Great pizza with a nice outside patio. In Ferndale where many bars are in walking distance. Unfortunately for Roy and Brad, Doug's Body Shop is no longer open.

+ Toasted Oak- In Hotel Baronette, near Rock. Good food, probably a bit higher priced. Ecclectic American Cuisine with a local focus. Nice wine selection.

+ Steve and Rocky's- A few of us ate lunch here two years ago. It was OK. Heavy on fish with chicken and steak. A nicer atmosphere, a bit on the pricey side. Close to Rock.

+ Shiro- an intersting Sushi place in an old Colonial house. About 2 miles from Rock. Some of the dining areas are literally rooms you'd find in an old house. Not sure they could seat a larger group together.

I'm trying to stay away from large chains, but there are plenty of them there. Olive Garden, Friday's, Denny's, Hooters, BW3s, and Chuck E. Cheese's among others. There are planty more restaurants, depending on how far people are willing to travel.

Hi guys, new poster here. I have a quick question, Ive never attended a comiccon before. Can you bring in your comics to sell if youre not a registered vender? My uncle passed away a while ago but has a huge collection of relatively valuable comics my parents are looking to unload. Some of these include the first 100 amazing spiderman, amazing fantasy ft spiderman, first collection of fantastic four, xmen, etc. We are not sure how to go about this as of yet, wondering if this would be a start. We live in the Metro D area, so this is pretty convenient.

Also, dont be scared of detroit, its not so bad.

You can set up as a seller at a show. You'd have to contact the organizer to see if they have booth space available. It can be a bit daunting if you haven't done it before...you'd need to go through the collection and grade/price all of your books and get them to the show.

The other option is to find a dealer to sell the books to. You leave a little on the table as far as money goes, but that "meat on the bone" so to speak, covers the costs of the dealer doing all the leg work with pricing/grading/carrying the books.

It all depends on how much work and effort you'd want to put into selling the collection.

If you chose to sell the collection off in one chunk, I'd definitely have an interest and am only a few hours drive out of Detroit. I've been to Detroit twice in the past 2 weeks already. Check that blinking envelope on the top and click on it to read any new messages you might have. :shy:
