Opinions on top census copies?

48 posts in this topic

Even early on the 10x multiple for a .2 increase you really can't see never made sense to me. Not to say that I agreed with JC's stance (where is Vince anyway, haven't seen him posting or maybe I am spending too much time in the OA forum) that the graded comic market would burn (his sig line in 200--2006). But for my collecting stance (completionist) I was never going to time the market right because I was looking to buy a lot of books and hold (for a looong time) the top census chase never made sense.

A few comments, I believe someone touched on it, but extend that 9.8 top census=top $$ aversion to 1966 and above. Anyone see all the SA 9.8 pressin [sic] their way out of the wood work in auction after auction?? I'm sure we all have. The rarity of some of the more off-stream titles has a problem of demand associated with driving a top census hysteria - though it could happen because in theory it only takes 2 ....

I think the last bastion of BA top census shenanigans has the potential to be seen in the 35 cents variant / western 30 cent variant realm. Hold FD back I can see him nodding frantically at the computer. The problem is they need to actually appear, which is part of the mystique of the 35s and true hard to find top census copies. I haven't checked in a while but if a Star Wars 1 35c ever came on the market look out.

I miss the "gold rush" CGC days very much. What a great time. So much energy, rekindled passion, and wonderfully obsessive behavior all around. The forums crackled with electricity... :cloud9:

Meeting you opened up a door to so much knowledge about bronze comics. I miss your posts Godfather.

+1 Bruce was one of the early adopters that not only "got it," but was willing to discuss it. I learned so much from him (and many others here) especially going through old threads that were long before my time. We have PM'd some, but not a lot, I think he would laugh if he knew how much I thought of him as a mentor in the graded comics game.

You're too kind Steveo -- and I miss many of my forumite friends as well! Let's talk soon?

All that bronze market knowledge is pretty useless overall now -- so I'm relatively useless here. lol

I just wish you had sold off more of your "easy to replace" stuff when I warned you a couple years back that it was a really good idea to dump them -- before the more devastating period of the bronze crash arrived. :(

Still no 9.8, (2) 9.6's... that would go ballistic.

:hi::headbang:

Bruce, thanks for specifying. I should have said, if a 9.8 Star Wars 1 (35cent) every came out.

You were clear my friend. I checked the census on the 35¢ Star Wars 1 and there were (0) 9.8's, but (2) 9.6's graded... unless I misread it. It appears only a 9.4 has ever sold publicly unless one/both the 9.6's sold outside a GPA trackable venue.
