Comic egos

BTW, I thought this was developing into a really interesting thread, until the subject of "THE AVATAR" came up.

Gene, I don't know if you remember, but at the height of the GI JOE flap I PM'd you (you know, PM?) and told you that you shouldn't let anyone attempt to tell you what to collect. If it floats your boat, do it.

And I don't mind hearing about what people find exciting or are having fun collecting. I'm a Silver Age guy, but one of the great things about this board is that I've been exposed to the enthusiasms of people who collect all kinds of things. I never would have looked at Wonder Woman's place in comic book history if I hadn't read Joanna waxing prosaic about her love of the character, or Shiverbones posting tons of cool Bronze Age horror covers. Or listening to BronzeBruce talking about collector cups, or Captain Tripps showing me his favorite highest end Pacific Coast books (and doing it in a very non-BSD manner). It's all cool and I love hearing about the passions.

What I collect is a reflection of my own personal idiosyncracies and nostolgia trip and the degree of my own obssessive compulsive disorder. If I happen to find someone on the boards who collects and appreciates what I collect, great. If not, ....so what.

Like I said.....whatever floats your boat.

Sing it with me, people:

"Come on people now

Smile on your brother

Everybody get together

Try to love one another right now."

Hi Steve

I am not even American but I am more disgusted at the way in which the photographs you refer to are being used by the media to create an idea that the abuse in question is widespread across the U.S. army.

Let's be clear that 99.99% of the soldiers are doing an incredible job, under unbelievably tough conditions. They are fighting for the liberty of both you and I, even though you are an American citizen, and I am a British citizen. And they are doing so with restraint, and respect for the citizens of Iraq.

The constant, steady drip, drip of these images featuring the same rogue set of soldiers in the same prison, does nothing to make me think this abuse is widespread. Am I appalled by the abuse in question ? Yes I am. But let's remember that many of these captured Iraqis are not good guys, they are vicious killers with no respect for human life.

I found it interesting seeing Amnesty International on the morning news in England pouring their outrage over a set of similar photographs showing British soldiers carrying out apparent abuses. Those photographs were proved to be fakes.

And guess what, when the U.S. citizen was decapitated live on video by a terror group and those images were broadcast across the civilized world Amnesty International were nowhere to be seen.

r100,

People who are NOT regulars to this forum are the ones who will be driven off and never come back because they see that type of trash and think that it is condoned by the rest of us here.

As opposed to people coming on here and seeing certain people promoting porn stars? I guess a few of the people who were preturbed by this should have been more vocal about how offensive they found those particular threads.

I support your right to not like pictures of fully clothed beautiful women. I apologize 110% to you for offending you with pictures of women (who happens to be my friend).

More the implied condoning of the porn business than a specific criticism of the pictures that you posted (which I know you were careful not to cross the line on). flowerred.gif
