they should change this rule

Don't take book(s) if you've got nothing to offer in return

to this

Don't take book(s) if you have nothing of AT LEAST EQUAL value to offer in return

might slow things down a touch but some days they're slow enough with the regular rules.

No. That defeats the whole purpose of this thread. We're not supposed to discuss values at all for a reason. The last thing this thread needs is a bunch of speculators and flippers watching it to see what good stuff they can poach for resale, while people who honestly want to participate in the community by giving out free books get shut out because they don't think their offerings are "valuable" enough.

Then how about "relative equal value".

We need something that stops people from taking a valuable offer and then throwing up a few .50 books. That kills the thread for a long time and eventually someone has to play the good samaritan role by taking a crummy offer to move the thread along.

Speculators and flippers aren't going to "poach" the thread if they have to offer a comparable item(s). The biggest disparity of value between offers will occur when there is no value requirement.

Why quote the rules if you are just going to violate another rule in the process? You've obviously read the rules, just follow them.

Everyone here has the power to make this thread go faster. Just put up that takeit sign and submit your offer. Not all collections are created equal and people offer what they can.

Okay, I don’t like to chime in on this, but I agree with krighton and especially Boboset which explained well..

It’s not strictly a matter of value. There must be at least an effort to offer some book of interest, or an effort to update the offers in order to keep the thread going if no one appears interested in the previous offers.

+1

Value has nothing to do with it so much as interest - it's usually pretty clear after a day or so if what's been put up isn't of interest to the group (when high interest items are put up they're gone very quickly so we know the thread is checked pretty often). I still feel pretty strongly that values should be ignored to the best of our ability, but we should be trying to find stuff that someone else would enjoy and be interested in, and if nobody is, try and keep things going along.
