PAY IT FORWARD

17,623 posts in this topic

Okay, here we go.

A couple of rules:

1. Please pick ONE of the following options.

2. I'll ship this stuff anywhere in the U.S. on my dime. Outside the U.S. I'll cover the first $10 shipping but the claimant will need to pay the rest. That stuff is not cheap, unfortunately.

3. I sure hope you like reading!

Again, please pick one of these:

Option 1: A Mystery Box!

What's in it? That's a mystery. Hence the name. If you like, I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire as well!

Option 2: Green Arrow Reader Lot!

This is a true Pay It Forward lot, as I received most of these from an earlier fellow. I have enjoyed them and now pass that enjoyment on to you. This is Green Arrow vol. 2 #15, 36 and 66-75, the final ten issues. This run includes not only Ollie's proposal to Dinah, but also guest appearances by Batman and Red Hood!

Option 3: Dr. Strange Reader Lot!

14 mostly random issues of Dr. Strange! Don't worry, most of these are parts of different arcs, so the chances of any of these making any sense is nearly nil! Don't you just love that?

SAM_1279.jpg

Option 4: Airboy reader lot!

16 Airboy related comics, including writing by Chuck Dixon and art by the likes of Paul Gulacy and noted fantasy artist Larry Elmore! Check out those sweet Gulacy and Elmore covers at the bottom there! They get overshadowed by Dave Stevens, but these guys could bring the thunder to their Airboy work as well.

SAM_1276.jpg

Option 5: GIANT Archie reader lot!

27 random Archie comics, including Archie #400! Great for the whole family!

SAM_1278.jpg

Option 6: Bronze Age DC Fantasy reader lot!

19 Bronze Age DC Fantasy comics! Okay, so Arak is more like Copper Age, but whatever. We've got 8 issues of Claw, 4 issues of Beowulf, all 4 issues of Stalker, 2 issues of Sword of Sorcery and one issue of Arak. Those Stalker issues feature the truly unique art team of Steve Ditko being inked by Wally Wood! With a story by future "Great Darkness Saga" writer and DC head honcho Paul Levitz! A must read.

Again, please pick one of those options.

But wait! That's not more! No matter which option you pick, the lucky winner will receive this incredible bonus comic book gem as well:

BOOM!

I'll leave these up until tomorrow, and if nobody has claimed anything by then, I'll put up a bunch of different options instead.

To close out the night here, I would like to say that sometimes it takes incidents like today to stimulate a thread or create change. I would like to welcome all of the new members that had their very first PIF today! :foryou: I think you will enjoy it here and it is a great place to make new friends. If anyone ever needs any advice or has any questions please feel free to PM me anytime or ask some of the more experienced participants :)

This thread always catches fire after a public blowup. It is cyclic that way, lol

Boostergold, I have no idea what any of those offers were, but they looked cool :)

It was for all of the Razor books or choose between the two Masterworks.

Oh, I knew what the actual offer was, I am just unfamiliar with those titles or genre. They did look cool though. Nice job, they were claimed quickly!

I live in Vegas, we have no teams :(

I pull for whoever i have $$ on :D

I couldn't live in Vegas, I'd be broke. Or... Maybe really wealthy, it's not a gambling problem if you're winning right?

Living here, most people get burned out on gambling pretty quick. Especially if you work in the casino industry, you just get tired of seeing it.

That's why I never wanted to become a gynecologist.

I can't let Slym fall on his sword alone here. I don't think it is fair to tell him that he sucked the fun out of the thread. That is a pretty harsh statement. Him and I have been working hard to let new people to the boards know about PIF and/or welcome them here when they discover it. I am sure some of the new members can confirm this. Slym is not a bean counter who analyzes every post for value. He is just not like that. I think he is referring to the eyeball test on what appears right. Perhaps that view is different from person to person but that does not change the fact that a lot of old members stated publicly they were done with the thread because of the very reasons Slym brought up.

Look, I love this thread. This is one of the first things I discovered on the boards when I joined and where I met most of my best boardie friends. If the thread dies, then that is just the way things go. Personally, I hope it continues to thrive and more people discover it in the future.

+1

Oh, this is how it's going to be, huh?

hm

Of course, we had so many people claim items yesterday that half the people in the thread can't claim anything yet since it hasn't been 24 hours.

But since progress waits for no man, I'm going to go ahead and keep adding offers until somebody dies!!!

I mean, until someone claims one. Sorry. Accidentally channeled Jack Nicholson's Joker there for a second.

Here's a recap. Pick one of these options:

Option 1: Mystery Box!

Option 2: Green Arrow lot!

Option 3: Dr. Strange lot!

Option 4: Airboy lot!

Option 5: Archie lot!

Option 6: Bronze DC Fantasy lot!

Option 7: Captain Britain TPB!

This reprints the first 24 issues of the original weekly Captain Britain series from 1976. Writing is by Chris Claremont and Gary Freidrich! Art is mostly by Herb Trimpe!

SAM_1290.jpg

This collection includes the first appearance of Betsy Braddock, aka Psylocke!

SAM_1292.jpg

It also contains an awesome Captain America storyline where the two Caps team up to battle the Red Skull! This Cap storyline was never reprinted in the United States, so Cap fans may not be aware of it.

SAM_1293.jpg

One thing to note is that this collection cuts off just before the end of the Cap storyline. No, I don't know what they were thinking when they did that.

Option 8: Silver Age Aquaman reader lot!

Five classic Silver Age issues of Aquaman! These are pretty beat up, but just look at those incredible Nick Cardy covers!

SAM_1287.jpg

Option 9: Capt. Billy's Whiz Bang!

This is not a comic book, but it's a really cool and bizarre bit of comic book history. This magazine was published by a guy named Wilford Fawcett. It became so popular, it funded a whole publishing empire called Fawcett Publications.

In 1940, Fawcett decided to branch out into the new world of comic books and they took inspiration from their flagship magazine. "Whiz Bang" became Whiz Comics, and "Capt. Billy" became Billy Batson, aka Captain Marvel!

Pretty awesome bit of comics history.

SAM_1294.jpg

And of course, no matter what you claim, you'll get this red hot comic book gem:

Working on even more options. I haven't had any requests yet, so now's the time. If there's something you're looking for, I will try to provide you with an option that fits your collecting needs if I can.

Since you asked for requests. Have you finished reading those Sandman TPB's you took earlier in the thread?

I didn't get those. They were sent to someone else.

Otherwise, yeah, I would hope I could have read them all by this point.

What kind of grade is the Aquaman lot in? Are they all complete/everything attached?

They are all low grade, maybe 2.5-3.0.

They are all complete, with two exceptions, one minor and one majorly weird:

#45 is missing a corner of the splash page, looks like it was torn off. It affects the art a little but not the story - everything is readable except the credit box.

#41 seems to be missing the first wrap. I'm not sure how or why. The cover is attached. So either it was manufactured without the first wrap or someone took the staples out, removed the wrap and then re-attached the cover. Seems like a lot of effort, but either way, the first two pages of the story are missing.

(or there was a coupon or a pinup worth tearing out from the back page... they tear out the back page, and then the front page falls out)

very nice offers cb!

Love that despite a bit of negative comments, you guys pulled this back together. I logged in today to find 101 new comments and expected nothing but negativity. Thanks for proving me wrong. I'll see how good of an offer I can put together. My offer will be up shortly.
