I hate the Miami Heat

I've played with quite a few 5' 8" guys who can dunk like you just described, off of lobs but not straight away. It never occurred to me that could be easier. I've always been able to palm, but I have no idea how people measure hand size so I don't know if it's due to large hands. I know my girlfriend who is 6' 1" and has longer fingers than I do (she likes to compare equivalent parts of our bodies because we're about the same height) can't palm, so I assume that hand strength plays a big part in it, but I don't know to what degree it can make up for hand size. hm

I think it's a strength thing. I can palm a basketball, and I'm 5'11" with average sized hands. But I have to squeeze the out of it.

I have to squeeze it really hard also, and with my fingers inside the seams. I can grip it without my fingers in the seams, but not in any controlled way and not for long. In the seams I can usually hold a regulation ball indefinitely, or at least until my hand tires. How do you have a sense that your hands are of average size? I've not personally heard of a standard way to measure that, although I'm sure one exists somewhere.

Just my perception, which may be off. They don't seem small or large. If anything, my hands may even be smallish, but I have a pretty strong grip from doing lots of pullups, so I think grip strength definitely compensates for the size of your hand if you're trying to palm a ball. But my control sucks. You could probably flick the ball loose. lol

I'm jealous. I wish I could dunk just once (on a ten foot net, not the kiddie 8 foot net.)

It's unfair to set everyone's goal at 10 feet when we're born at varying distances from that height. Pick your favorite NBA player, subtract your height from his, add another 50% of that difference to account for longer arms, and set that as the goal to dunk on. If you picked a player a foot taller than you, that'd be about 18" off the goal's height, i.e. 8' 6". At least then you and that player are facing the same physical challenge.

I could only touch the rim with 3 finger. I couldn't even dunk a golf ball. :sorry:
