9.2, great shot at 9.4/9.6 if cleaned. If that is an ink spot CGC may give you an apparent grade. I had a book I purchased fresh off the newstand and CGC gave me an apparent grade due to an ink spot

Really? Do you mean qualified? Apparent is for restored comics.

 

I subed a book last year with a similar ink spot (except it was red) and it received an unqualified 9.6...

my favorite cover for any early x-book. looks beautiful! looks like at least 9.0

Edges are a little soft . . . 8.0, possible 8.5 after cleaning, but certainly not in the 9.0 range.

Can you elaborate more divad? Those edges look sharp to me...

I think he means the corners, the bottom are slightly rounded or at least appear to be from the scans. 8.5/9.0 here.

Does the spot have a third dimension? If yes, is it scrapable? Careful . . . if it is you need to use an art spatula.

 

A pencil -tipped white gum eraser will (gently) remove the spine dirt at the staples BC, and remove any tarnish from the conveniently placed staples

 

(Pentel Clic Eraser ZE22 is a nice tool)

I think that little black dot is production related. I have a few late Silver and Bronze age books with a black dot of inks like that on the back cover.
