It's the little white tics or bends/creases along the spine, which is real easy to see on your book because the spine is black. It's pretty much the first thing to look at to decide if your book is in the 9.6-9.8 range or the 9.0-9.2 range. (thumbs u

Assuming every other part of the book is near flawless, one maybe two for a 9.6, of course that's also considering the size and severity of the tic mark.
you can have one very small one on a 9.8 if the rest of the book is flawless. This is on a modern 9.8.
