So, were these six books the entire Marvel Universe in May of 1963?

A cool ad from FF 14 (May 1963):

The Hulk was gone by then, and Doc Strange along with the Avengers and X-men where not around yet I believe.

What is the deal with the thing popping out of Iron Man's sholder?

Yes, those along with Sgt. Fury were being published at the time... I suppose they could consider only the Superhero titles part of the "Marvel Universe"-just depends on your definition.

That's right, Sgt. Fury #1 has a cover date of May 1963.

But the ad was for just the six superhero titles.

Although Fury later joined the Marvel Universe in FF 21, so I guess Sgt. Fury 1 counts too.

Then by that logic Kid Colt (or was it Two-Gun Kid) should also count. He was an Avenger.

So was Patsy Walker - didn't she become Tigra?

Hawkeye went back in time and met Kid Colt, Two-Gun and Rawhide. Also, Millie the Model, Hedy and Patsy were all at Reed and Sue's wedding in FF Annual 3.

Speaking of cool ads for early Marvel books, there was an ad for the Fantastic Four in some book, i don't remember which one, but the original art sold about a year ago on ebay. It was the oldest FF original art known, Very cool piece, but I don't remember which comic it appeared in. I want to say it was in Hulk 1 or 2 but I'm not sure. Anybody know?
