A Broken Dream??

6 posts in this topic

I don't like to trash talk, I don't like to say bad things about people and it has nothing to do with karma. I just don't like when it is done about me so i won't do it to others. It is that whole golden rule thing. I used to write for Comicbooked and stopped quite a while ago. I felt that I would rather write on my own merits. I started to write more on my blog, hoping for more followers. I did my own thing so to speak. When I applied for ECCC the approval was immediate. I was ecstatic. I made my plane arrangements immediately. Fortunately I had a place to stay. Wizard World's stance was more like; we will let you know two weeks before the event. I was OK with this because it is my home city. I sent an email off any way to Jerry Milani, the man in charge of PR and although I met him in years past, I am sure I am just another face. I hoped to get some kind of answer. Unfortunately at this time it seems that answer is negative. This is disheartening. I was waiting before writing anything because I felt that I would rather continue writing what I was doing, especially like things with top ten which I will get to my number four spot. I felt without being accepted to go that I would not spend my time writing and promoting an event. Will I still go, yes, of course, Stan Lee is there, but do I have to stay my tongue. I'll use their hashtag on Instagram and Twitter. I will still write about all the good things I see, but I wonder why Wizard World went from a great comic book convention with Marvel and DC to a pop cultural event.Sure both are massive in their own right and with sales being through the roof, Wizard World must be doing something right. Here's my take on it.http://ashotofcomics.blogspot.com/2013/05/wizard-world-2013-roundabout-preview.htmlI am not negative, I don't want to be. I won't claim sour grapes or say how dare they. This is their choice if they decide not to release a press pass to me, but I ask you, please come along. Play along. Let me know if I can cover the event with justice. On this more than anything else I ask for your feedback. Yes I am a collector, just like you, but I am a writer too, one that loves to write about what we all collect, shot glasses...I mean comic books, specifically graded by CGC.Thanks for ReadingTnerbRandom Photo below 13618.JPG

Yeah, you rock for sure. I like reading your posts and journals on every subject, whether light hearted or not.

It's ok to be disappointed over this. I would be too.

Don't let it get to you too much though. You are an awesome person and an insightful writer. Just speak the truth from your heart and mind and the rest of us will respond in kind.

I've only been to one Wizard show - a few years ago when they tried to do Wizard World New England - and it was by far the worst comic show I have ever been to. And apparently everyone else up here agreed, because Wizard hasn't come near the city since. Good riddance.

I would be disappointed too T.

The truth is, your writing is good and well read - you'll get more press-passes from the various cons and Wizard World will come around or they won't.

My experience has always been that if you are local - it is less likely you will be treated as a respected professional, than if you travelled many miles to attend.

Enjoy your weekend at con!

From what I understand, Wizard World is the least respected of all the Cons by the comic book companies. The organizers have poor attitudes and the shows are very mediocre. This is just hearsay mind you, but from the sounds of things they were right.
