Shipping to Canada from USA

It would help if someone else who has had recent experience chimed in to help us with this one.

Assuming that Bosco's information is both correct and current (USPS first class no longer includes tracking to Canada), what is the cheapest method that does include tracking?

Thanks again.

Here is the correct and accurate advice I provided.

Ebay Buyer Protection Policy

If we resolve an item not as described case in the buyer's favor, we will in most circumstances ask the buyer to return the item to the seller (and the seller needs to accept the return even if the seller's return policy indicated "no returns accepted") before we refund the buyer and try to recover the refund amount from the seller. In those cases, we'll ask the buyer to promptly provide a shipping tracking number to us. For items valued $750 or above(based on the total amount of the sale, including the cost of the item, shipping charged by seller, any other fees seller may charge, and any sales tax), we'll also require the buyer to provide signature confirmation where such signature confirmation service is available from the shipping company. Return shipping will be at the buyer's expense. Any customs fees associated with the return will be the seller's responsibility. It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that the item is properly packaged and shipped. If the item is not delivered to the seller's return address in the condition in which the buyer received it, the buyer may not be eligible for a refund. It is the seller's responsibility to maintain a valid and current return address on file in the seller's eBay account to facilitate the return shipping. Once we have confirmed that the item was returned to the seller, we will refund the full cost of the item (including any applicable sales tax) and original shipping to the buyer. In some cases, we may refund part of the cost of the item to the buyer to cover differences between the item described and the item actually received, in which case we will try to recover that refund amount from the seller and not ask the buyer to return the item to the seller.

So, no matter what is returned, you must ensure it has the right delivery confirmation or you run the risk of not getting your refund. Then you will be out books and money. Just providing a customs # is not going to meet the requirements of Ebay Buyer Protection as it cannot validate the seller actually received the package you sent.

Not sure when Ebay changed the signature confirmation standards to $750, as it has been $250 or greater for the longest time.

I would still go with signature confirmation on anything $250 or greater just to be safe.

I would use the $20 Priority Legal size flat rate envelope as you should be able to provide plenty of cardboard reinforcement

Your other option is First Class Mail @ $14.54 for 2 lbs online

New for January 2013, free electronic USPS Delivery Confirmation International offers scan events for customers using select software or online tools. E-USPS DELCON INTL is optionally provided for First-Class Package International Service to select destinations. It will be available only to Canada to start with.

I think they rolled out delivery confirmation on FCMI to all of Canada by now but could not say for sure

:gossip: It is still $250 or sellers shipping product to buyers

hm

:gossip: They have it in a few sections of the Ebay BPP.

How sellers may be protected from losing a case

4.for items $750 (or local currency equivalent) or more (based on the total amount of the sale, including the cost of the item, shipping charged by the seller, any other fees seller may charge, and any sales tax), proof of the recipient's signature to confirm delivery is required where such signature confirmation service is available from at least one shipping company.

Definitely a disconnect between Disputes and Policies.

So they did put this back in place for Canada. Excellent!
