It gets worse (or better, depending if you're a fan of the series). Lots of 1st appearances (or 1st S.A. appearances) in that title. There was a time that the OSPG used to track & rank the value of the top titles. IIRC, Showcase was always the tops for S.A., by a pretty good margin.

Waning relevance, and continued trend downward on the top 40 list.

Putting together a run of Showcase in the late 80's - early 90's was really quite a challenge, and there was a time when the total value of the first 100 issues made it just about the most expensive Silver Age run to put together.

But that was a bygone era.

Strange Tales #110 will move way up the list.

Surprised that TTA #35 is at 40. The best "2nd appearance" out there. Love that book.

OH, and all of the Showcase books...just silly.

Soooo much wrong with this group. Where's Bats 121, Det 359 and Det 225? (Unless were in the camp of Det 225 not being Silver... I'm not.) And on the marvel side, I'd rather have a high-grade X-men 4 than a 2 any day, and while the 6th appearance of the hulk is cool, I'd prefer the 1st appearance of Hawkeye or the Black widow myself. Also think the other Bats silver keys are more relevant than some of these books. Bats 171? 181?

Just about all of the books you mentioned will show up at some point. I wasn't sure what to do with 'Tec 225. I seem to remember it being in the Top Silver lists of old, but I don't think it fits Overstreet's own definition of Silver Age. The guide also lists the first S.A. issue on many of the longer-running titles that cross ages, and 225 pre-dates the 1st S.A. 'Tec. A few other books I remember as Silver got bounced this way.

And it's not just the 6th Hulk, it's the intro of the Teen Brigade. :)

Well, these rankings are based on Overstreet Guide prices, which are reactive and very conservative in many instances so it really doesn't reflect today's hot commodity marketplace, but I agree with the listings in general as they stand.

Not me... Tec 225, last sale for a 9.2 was in 2008 for 14340. That trumps ALOT of books on this list. (e.g. FF6 thru 11). If Tec 225 is thrown out because it's not silver. X-men 4 it's a lot closer, but with the last sale of a 9.2 being 3K 2 years ago. I think it might edge out some of the marvel books that are 4, 5 and 6th appearances of heros. Superboy 68, highest graded is 9.0. No telling what a slabbed 9.2 would sell for, but it would be alot. Certainly more than later FF and Hulk appearances. Same can be said for Bats 121, last sale was 7K back in 09. Alot of this isn't recent trends. The books are just scarce in high-grade and demand is high because they have key character appearances.

If you want to cite recent sales examples as an argument against these rankings, then look no further that the key war books. They would leapfrog over the examples you've cited.

At the end of the day, Overstreet is just a guide. There are other sources to get more current market prices, if you desire.

80 G.I. Combat 68

Bats 171? 181?

Right, I believe the OP was trying to elicit opinions/discussion, this is just my opinion. (Though, I wouldn't call some of these sales "recent"... Unless four years is recent.) :) I am curious as to what War books that aren't already on the list would leapfrog Tec 225. I don't know much about that market, so I'm honestly curious. I'm surprised that there are other war books in the 20K range in 9.2 out there...

I'm just expanding upon the Top 20 that Overstreet lists every year, using Overstreet 9.2 values (raw, not slabbed). If 'Tec 225 is included as Silver, it comes in at #22 (tied w/ASM 2 & OAAW 83). Anything 'hot' now will take a while to be reflected in the Guide.

So in the Top 80, we currently have 5 war, 2 pre-heroes (not counting TTA 27) & 2 'kids' books. Not the expected ratios, or not the expected place in the list for those books?

I'm just starting to get into the price guide portion of the new Overstreet, and I've already found a significant error of omission.

It looks like Our Army At War #83 has finally cracked the Top 20 (#19, actually), but it didn't make the list of top silver age comics. Maybe one of the 'War Correspondents' could point this out to someone for the next guide.

While I haven't had a chance to add any of the new members to this list (FF #52, for example), I did take a look at any percentage increases from 2013 (not a single decrease, btw). Here are the top 10 increases for books outside of the Top 20:

OOAW #83, Superman #123 & 'Tec #359 all increased by 25%. Batgirl & Sgt. Rock are no surprise, but Supes 123 (Pre-Supergirl tryout c/story)? I must have missed the hype around this one.

Our Army At War #112 increased by just over 27%. Some war book recognition going on?

B&B #25 jumped 33.3%. Was there a Suicide Squad movie announcement?

Strange Tales #110 increased by just over 38%. Everyone knew this was coming.

Four Color #878 (Peanuts #1) jumped 40%. I've got to admit, this one caught me off guard. Is this a trend across the title, or was there a significant sale? Not bad Charlie Brown.

Strange Tales #89 moved more than 41% & #97 more than 42%. Pre-hero classics are alive and well.

But the #1 mover from this list is Superboy #68, a whopping 50% from the 2013 guide. The book gets a lot of love on these boards, but it looks like Overstreet is joining the party.
