Yes, I guess the slabbed Signature Series book becomes a sort of "library piece" where you can see the creator’s signatures at a glance, and they are certified.

I have very few signed books: a FF from Jack Kirby (which I met), a Strange Tales by Steranko, and a pair of Man-Things signed by Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik which I recently purchased from a gracious boardie.

That TOS #48 is super-beautiful, and it also made me realize that Lerry Lieber is still alive… and very interesting to read more about him. Much younger than Stan, for some reason I always thought he was older… :)

That's awesome stuff. I'd love to have met Kirby, but it just wasn't so. I have amassed a gorgeous collection of signed Kirby books (including FF 52 signed by the King -- and later Lee and Sinnott), but I think the gem in my collection might Jimmy Olsen 134 signed by Kirby and signed by Al Plastino (in person).

Hopefully, Supercon Mike invites Steranko next year because that is a guy I would love to meet.

I was also very excited at a chance to get Larry Lieber's auto on a book. I have a copy of JIM 84 signed by Stan, Larry, Ayers and Sinnott which came back a Slight A, which is always disappointing. I'm not sure if I plan on parting with it yet.

I would have loved to have met Mr.Kirby

Would love to meet Steranko

I have posted an audio snippet which is an excerpt of the interview I did with him in the thread started by Jools&Jim about the Fourth World in the Bronze section, if you want to check it out.

I am a bit ashamed by my bad english in the interview, many questions were asked by a relative of mine but when I speak myself it’s embarassing… :(

Absolutely. I can't think of a bigger influence on me. I remember the thrill of getting Byrne's FF as new books and digging through the boxes for Lee/Kirby FFs when I was a runt. The best of both worlds. Hahaha

If you are a big Kirby fan, I highly recommend Hand of Fire by Charles Hatfield. Great read, really insightful stuff on Jack's work.

When I first picked the Byrne FFs (I was about 20 years old) I was pretty enthusiastic, but little by little my discomfort for some aspects of Byrne’s approach led me to be pretty much critical.

I even asked a question about what Byrne did with the Thing and Alicia, but Jack had not been following the characters (and I guess mostly he did not care what they did after he left).

I had to mail out a few of these books to get the additional signatures. I don't think Lieber or Ayers do convention appearances anymore. Romita Sr will be in Miami next summer so I will finally get to meet him -- which I am pretty stoked about, man. It would only get better if Steranko, Sinnott and Murphy Anderson show up.

Wow, is that in the interview as well? I admit that the Byrne FF run lost steam for me when Ben left the book, but I have a new appreciation for those stories now that I'm older. I also loved the story arc of Ben's solo adventures on the Secret Wars planet.I don't think Byrne's run is above criticism in any way, but I think he understood the characters and got a lot of it right -- far more than just about any creative team other than Lee/Kirby/Sinnott (have to include Joe because his inks on Jack's stuff was just phenomenal).
