Bob Kane - original art?!?!?

25 posts in this topic

The best place to start to learn about Bob Kane's contribution to comics is 3 part Dial B for Blog entry on him.

That blog is a good example of letting emotions sway the interpretation of the facts.

The guy called Kane a plagiarist and cited as proof the fact the the first batman story is similar to a previous published tale.

But does he have any indication Kane stole the piece and gave the idea to Finger? No he didn't even try to say that.

Instead he said that Finger knew about the piece and borrowed from it. And that, the blogger said is evidence that Kane (and not Finger) is a plagiarist.

He cites Jerry Robinson and Bill Finger both as saying that Kane was wrong to take credit for the creation of robin.

But who do they say did create Robin?

Well, they disagree with each other, as well

Finger said he did

Robinson said he did.

So they're calling each other liars as much as they are calling Kane a liar.

But did the blogger note that? No. He failed to see the irony in embracing BOTH Robinson and Finger stories -- just because both of them say that Kane was also a liar.

There is no irony noted in that. And no judgment is made about the fact that Robinson is saying Finger didn't create Robin or the fact that Finger said Robinson didn't create Robin.

Robinson and Finger both get a pass for contradicting each other in their claims at creating Robin -- simply because they are ALSO disputing Kane.

So eager is he to demonize Kane that he will embrace any contradictions to do it.

Anybody who creates a journalistic piece with those kinds of logical and reportorial flaws should not have his work credited as the "accepted: version of events.

That should be left to somebody who does a balanced objective piece without bias or an agenda going in.
