PGM: Strain #1 to Help Me Make Sure I'm Not Going Crazy/Blind

12 posts in this topic

Long story short. Sold this book as a 9.0-9.2. The book arrived with no damage, but the buyer claims it's no better than an 8.0. The situation has been resolved, but I want to make sure I'm not completely slipping on my grading.

Any opinions offered are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance (thumbs u

No internal defects? Did the buyer defend their grade?

Looks like a 9.0 to me.

Nope, no internal defects. Buyer said the amount of spine ticks caused it to be no better than an 8.0 (VF). I simply said, I was aware of the defects, which is why it was graded as 9.0-9.2, and attempted to capture every imperfection by including high-res scans and photos.

1. Did you get the book back yet?

2. What is the buyer's ID?

Just to wash my hands of the situation, I issued a partial refund for what an 8.0-8.5 was selling for. I gave him the option of sending it back, but got the sense he was fishing for a partial refund the whole time.

Partial refunds make baby Jesus cry.

And since you think he/she was after the partial from the beginning, an ID could help others skirt this "issue" in the future.

And, to the question at hand, the paper behind the scanner is too busy to tell all of the ticks, but from what I can make out, nothing to put this at an 8.0. And definitely not an eBay 8.0.

Thanks for the tip on the paper. I'll replace for future scans.

I'd rather not publicly out the user in case it was truly and honestly a difference in opinion on grading. However, if anybody would like the ID, simply shoot me a PM and I'll provide you with it.

And, thank you, to everyone who took the time to offer up their thoughts. I appreciate it (thumbs u

Not even remotely a VF, this is definitely in the NM area.

One could argue it‘s a VFNM rather than a NM- or better but surely a solid VFNM. (thumbs u

If he said he felt it was a VF+, maybe… but not a VF. Maybe he collects moderns alone – he needs a bit of perspective to see how grading applies to different formats, paper, etc. :)
