Here is the ultimate Marvelmania poster featuring one of Steranko's greatest Captain America images. Super rare. 33" x 22" inches, produced in 1970 by Marvelmania.

Beautiful color, no writing. Image is intact. Has missing pieces and tape at corners. Missing piece at bottom middle. Nothing significant on back. Put this in a frame with a mat and it will look awesome. Photo taken with poster in mylar sleeve (which is not included). Will be shipped rolled.

UNSEEN SHADOWS (Supergraphics, 1978)

This scarce book details Steranko's multi-year odyssey to illustrate the 27 different painted covers that he created for the Shadow paperback series between 1975 and 1978. Completely written, designed, illustrated and published by Steranko in 1978. This is a seldom seen gem!

Unseen Shadows contains 50 pages of pencilled prelims for each cover, some paintings have multiple prelims. Not reprinted in any other volume! A beautiful book for a fan of Steranko's amazing Shadow paintings. Full color covers with b&w interiors. Cardstock cover with tanning on inside of cover (typical of this book due to paper quality). Pages are not tanned at all. This is a very tough book to locate in top condition, and this copy is NM. Killer book!

In 1978, the Winnipeg Art Gallery featured an exhibition of Steranko's work and produced a fantastic catalog titled STERANKO: GRAPHIC NARRATIVE, a 108 page softcover book with high-quality paper featuring reproductions of Steranko's work from his own photostats, probably the best reproduction of his inks that I've ever seen. Also included is an essay on Steranko's impact on comic book illustration. Here is a beautiful copy, near mint or VF+ with white pages, as nice as you'll ever find. Many images in this book were never reproduced elsewhere. Take a look at the images in this book....

Steranko did two covers for the Marvel Comics index series by George Olshevsky in 1979 (published by Marvel). The Captain America issue is very scarce and features the first printing of what is the best image of Captain America that Steranko ever produced, in glorious wraparound color! 8.5 x 11" in size! That makes the wraparound cover 8.5" x 22" ! The largest cover that Steranko ever did. Interior is an amazing index resource of Tales of Suspense, Golden Age, Silver and Bronze Captain America.

This copy is in Fine condition with a bit of rubbing and light creasing on front and back cover. This is very nice copy of a seldom seen book. Pages are bright white, no creases, no tears. Book is flat, glossy and has super color as you can see in the photos. Killer Cap image by Steranko! If you are looking for a really nice example of this scarce book, here you go:

CHANDLER: RED TIDE by Jim Steranko, 127 pages, FULL SIZE 8.5 x 11"

Pyramid Books 1976

This is the classic, magnum-opus work by Jim Steranko, CHANDLER : RED TIDE that was published in 1976 which was written, pencilled, inked and colored by Jim Steranko. Considered groundbreaking, and highly influential, it is Steranko's longest self-contained graphic storytelling work. It is some of Steranko's best work in any medium. There were two versions of this book, one a digest size, published by Byron Preiss on lesser-quality paper, and this one, the scarce, special-order-only full size 8.5 x 11" that was printed on much higher-quality paper. This is the much harder to find version. Chandler : Red Tide is the ultimate published work by Steranko in its intended full-size with bold colors.

This is the best copy of this book that I have ever seen or owned. NM- condition, conservatively graded. Beautiful, white pages, which are never found in this book! Book appears to be unread based on flat, firm spine. Really, really tough to find in this condition.

Considered groundbreaking, and highly influential, it is Steranko's longest self-contained graphic storytelling work. It is some of Steranko's best work in any medium. Hard to find! The reprint to be released (at some point by Dark Horse) will be computer colored. This is the first printing with original coloring.

Fine condition, no tears, no writing. Cream pages (typical of this book). Appears to be unread.

This is a copy of the super rare STERANKO ON CARDS, first 1960 printing.

Entire 102 page book was designed, written and illustrated by Steranko when he was only 22 years old. Includes Steranko photo on cover. This book is legendary among card magicians and very sought after.

This book is in fine to very fine condition. Pages are very nice. It was printed with a clear plastic front and back cover and a plastic comb binding. Clear plastic is toned in some areas, but still intact, as is the black plastic binding.

Super scarce.

Next items are VERY unusual. These books caused a sensation in the magic world when released, and were printed in limited quantities, for industry people only.

In 1962, Steranko published STACKED DECK (as part of Genii magazine), a 20 page book of revolutionary card magic that was written, designed, illustrated and photographed by him.

In 1964, he upped the ante with STERANKO'S WORLD OF ESCAPES (part of Genii Magazine). 47 pages written, designed, photographed and illustrated by Steranko. Yes, it's true that Steranko influenced Kirby to create Mister Miracle.

These books are super rare, needless to say. Highly sought after by hardcore Steranko collectors. I'm going to sell these books as a pair:

1962 issue: Fine condition, flat, has small chip out bottom right cover. Pages beautiful.

1964 issue: Fine- condition, wavy top right corner throughout book due to moisture, otherwise beautiful pages and attractive cover.

$350 for both books

How about this one...

The earliest biography/interview ever done on Jim Steranko. Featured in a scarce, limited print-run magazine well prior to his Harvey and Marvel comic book years, and mentions pre-Harvey comic book work! Discusses his magic career up to that point in-depth. Biography is two and a half pages long. Lots of information you'll never find anywhere else. I believe this magazine features the first photograph of Steranko in a national periodical. Magazine is complete and in NM condition. Shown below is the interior.

In 1972, Steranko launched his revolutionary comics, sci-fi and fandom magazine, COMIXSCENE (which later became MEDIASCENE and then PREVUE), which was written, designed and published by Steranko. Also included in these issues were illustrations that were never reprinted elsewhere. This is issue #1, the scarcest of them all, which has a large Doc Savage feature article and a massive illustration of Doc Savage and the Shadow.

Fine condition, but has coupon cut out on interior. No writing, no tears. Newsprint, folded in half, as originally issued. Amazingly, does not have a mailing label, which is unusual for these Comixscene issues.

Jim has mentioned that he worked (as an inker?) with Vince Colletta and Matt Baker circa 1959. It is not known which titles he worked on.
