I'm sure there are multiple lists around somewhere... they just aren't the same. And do you want "must own" issues or keys?

Go through the registry. Lists all the books and the point system gives a pretty good guidance of "key" issues.

AF15,1-100 121,122,129,135, (161/162 cool NIGHTCRAWLER issues!) 194,238,239,252,265, 298-328, 361,362,363,365,430,431, 1 Sunburst, 19-21 larsen venom,25, 36, 51,52 MJ, 569 venom variant, (all new ways to die issues), 601,606,607,612 and 620 deadpool 612 black cat variant, 654.1, 697-700,

 

I missed a few such as venom symbiote variant issue, the 666 store variants and first Iron Spider but cant recall numbers off hand.

 

Outside of ASM, there are a handful of first appearances such as Cloak and Dagger and Scarlet Spider in WOS and PPSS.

 

ASM and X-men probably have the best chunk of keys and good reads out of all the titles..

 

my X-men list is equally huge, most have been mentioned but there is also X-men annual 14, 244, 222 (I noticed someone mentioned 1st Sinister!! 222 is also a great issue with classic cover. both good read and great covers there!) X-men 50 is an awesome Steranko cover. so many classics..

 

oh dont forget the good modern reads such as 366/367 (Apocalypse 12),

390 is such an emotional and compelling story as well a must have for true readers and collectors (even if the collectors dont know it yet!)

 

I can go on and on about good x-men storylines/keys but you really cant go wrong with the entire ASM 1-700 run and X-men 1-544

 

In my opinion the 2 greatest runs in the history of comics other than Batman 1-712+n52!!

the only unfortunate thing is that for a number of issues in the mid 90's you need companion books to read the whole series. such as WoS or X-factor for Xtinction agenda etc..

 

as for movie announcements,, ASM and X-men fans could care less.. these books will outlast any movie hype..
