Is that rust on the bottom staple?

 

Looks around a 9.0 otherwise, assuming the tears are production related.

..... CGC is in a tight phase right now..... 8.0 as is, with a possible press to 8.5/9.0....... these New Brunswick's have a very fresh in hand effect that a scan fails to capture.... GOD BLESS....

Gorgeous book, but: The area around the bottom staple / lower spine looks dark. Is that really not rust transfer? Likewise, staples at centerfold looking a bit dark?

Bottom staple clean. Printing ink production only. NO rust at all anywhere

I understand why people think the bottom staple is rusty, it's slightly recessed, and the paper behind it is giving it a spotty look. Impossible to tell by the picture.

 

The top tear on the back cover at "attractive wrist watch" may be production, the bottom one at " Tracy Camera" isn't. I think that tear would get hammered, so I'm closer to 7.5 than 8.0 as it stands, but agree with Jim that pressing that back cover smooth could give you a shot at 8.5.
