James Bond XXIV: SPECTRE - "You're a kite dancing in a hurricane Mr. Bond."

Ouch! Would have thought the tomato meter would have been better.

I wonder if Daniel Craig's heart just wasn't into the performance. With the negative things he has had to say about James Bond and moving forward with the role, I wouldn't think that happened just now.

Apparently if you like Skyfall you might not like this... well that a plus in my book!

Seeing it tomorrow.

Hoping for more Casino Royale and less Skyfall.

Thank god, I know people loved Skyfall, but it fell flat to me.

Sorry if I missed it, but can you provide links of him saying negative things about the role?

But yea, reviews are not great for the film thus far. :sorry:

Saw it on Wednesday. Its quite forgettable as Bond films go. Not as much as Quantum of Solace but the plot just seems a bit meh. It's something that they have clearly been thinking about for a while, but when it comes to it it feels shoehorned into the narrative and leaves you feeling 'meh' rather than 'that was unexpected'. Its quite predictable from the start once again the villain is someone hiding away rather than face to face with Bond, which is getting quite boring. RT is probably about spot on. As a spectacle it is fun, but as a Bond film it's pretty weak.

Ouch!

Probably what Daniel Craig said after a lot of the stunts. It does have some good action sequences and one great thing is the jokes are good and don't fall flat. I just came out feeling underwhelmed by the plot. It just didn't grip me as others have.

I've alway enjoyed Another Way Too Die's edge it brought to "Solace". But Adele's Skyfall was a return to form (Shirley Bassey) for the films. It elevated the theme considerably.

Note: ever changing Favorite Bond Films...

1. Goldfinger

2. Skyfall

3. For Yor Eyes Only

4. Dr. No

5. Casino Royale

6. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

7. The Spy Who Loved Me

8. Golden...

Nice. I agree that Skyfall was 2nd only to Goldfinger. And I read all of those books too...my list:

1. Goldfinger

2. Skyfall

3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

4. Casino Royale

5. The Spy Who Loved Me

6. Goldeneye

7. For Your Eyes Only

8. From Russia With Love

9. Never Say Never Again

10. The Living Daylights

Oh bummer.

I was really looking forward to this, as much as TFA, but I won't get to see it this weekend. Disappointed to hear the negative reviews.

I liked Skyfall, but I didn't think it was particularly strong either. Seemed to be a lack of good action sequences like Casino. And when they started making their way to the church I remember thinking "sooo....this is it then? This is how the movie's going to wrap up?"

I was hoping this one was going to be a bit better.

Good list.

I'm actually watching the "first" James Bond film right now for the first time, "North By Northwest". It's striking how the tone is so similar to the early Bond films. Hitchcock was probably the real master of translating these films to celluloid.

Thinking about hanging off a replica of The Old Man in the Mountain for my new byline photo. hm

Here's my worst list.

Not all of them are awful, but most are not necessary either.

1. Casino Royale ('67): unofficial, but sets the bar for something that is so bad.

2. Moonraker: when I was 5, I thought this was the best movie ever, but now it resembles an obvious 'Star Wars' cash grab. The behind the scenes stuff (like the making of the eyepopping opening sequence) are the only watchable stuff on the disc.

3. Die Another Day: Ice palace, invisi-car, etc. This stuff would have been better in the Roger Moore era.

4. Octopussy

5. A View to a Kill

6. Quantum of Solice

7. Live and Let Die

8. Licence To Kill

9. The Man with the Golden Gun

Not that Spectre was awful, but I think it just missed the mark. I appreciated the return of

Blofeld

I hope they get Waltz back for any sequels.

But I wish they had gotten someone else to do the vocals to the opening titles sequence because for the life of me I couldn't understand a word the guy was saying, seriously the guy sounded like a howler monkey in pain!

I would have liked Waltz cheracter to be a little more clear in his motivations for

Killing his own dad I'm assuming to get back at Bond for stealing his attention away from him, I mean, really? Your going to kill your own dad over something like that? and why he became so obsessed for world domination via total surveillance

.

Also, nice touch with the "tentacle porn" in the opening credits. :roflmao:

Spectre 6.5/10

The intro is great, one long continuous shot during the day of the dead in Mexico, great opening action scene. Then it all goes down hill from there. The Sam Smith song is terrible although I like the credit sequence. Daniel Craig looks visibly older, I liked the movie until Lea Seydoux shows up. No real chemistry between the two which makes part of the movie feel too rushed in terms of character motivations.

The action is good and the fight scenes very reminescent of Casino Royale but the film suffers pacing issues, especially in the middle where I was bored.

Waltz is the weakest Blofeld since Charles Gray, not menacing at all and totally forgettable.

A decent entry into the Craig franchise but basically a hodge-podge of Bond movies that have gone before. Time for Mendes and writing staff to take a step away.

Casino Royale seems so long ago now.
