After doing a little research, I found that the Human Top was a new character, but that he was also an attempt to create an alternative to the racist Whitewash Jones character who was an original member of the GA Young Allies.

Here's a giant step forward for diversity in comics.

 

You said it, Old Guy! Look like they were inspired by Archie! Even Jabar (in #4) - the only one wearing a hat, has a typical Jughead response (say! Jughead wore a hat too!).

 

These folks may be Black but the antics and scenarios could be any middle or even upper-middle class white. Just change the skin tone! They just be havin' some fun!

::editing fast:: At least Black folk had a series but...well, it could have been done a lot better. After all, this IS the middle of the BA based on the 30 cent covers. Marvel and DC were doing much grimmer, more earthy and more realistic things (as far as emotions and situations go.)
