Matthew Sweet mixing in clips from 'Space Adventure Cobra' throughout the video helps with the visualization of a space opera of some form like Fifth Element, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai or even the Firefly TV series.

 

And I forgot. Matthew Sweet did a song based on a comic, Evangeline from Chuck Dixon. It was from the point of view of her partner, Johnny Six. So he seems influenced by comics and animated movie.
