Spider-Man can't be gay or black

The writer (or perhaps the headline writer, who may be a different person) needs to check the facts, because it doesn't say that Spider-man can't be black, only that Peter Parker can't.

Also, as far as I know, "Batwoman recently had a gay comic book marriage," is not accurate, unless DC changed their stance on that.

She didn't get married. DC refused and the writers left or sort of got fired. It was a big to do.

The book hadn't been great after Rucka stopped writing her though, IMO.

Was it ever explained why DC was against the same sex marriage of Batwoman? I'd figure with DC wanting to show how diverse they are they'd be all for it.

If I recall didn't Stan Lee say a long long long time ago that the great thing about Spider-man (Peter Parker Spidey) was the fact that he wore a mask which signaled to kids all over the world it could be anyone under that mask. Thus making him the everybody type hero.

So does the D in DC Comics now mean Diversity?

And if not, why not? Sounds like a great marketing idea to me. Especially with their new promotion of diverse cheracters, writers and creaters.

I think that despite some people thinking Marvel and DC have wildly liberal agendas forced on them by the PC police, the greater truth is that they crunched the numbers and for 'whatever reason' that Batwoman is more marketable as an unmarried woman at this point in time. I think we can all do some 'fanboy' speculation as to why that would appeal to some more, but I have no doubt the reason had less to do with 'morals' than it did with the bottom line, though there are any number of ways these actions could be percieved.

IIRC, DC instituted a "no married characters" edict for any of their A/B-list characters in the New52. Pretty much the same logic that Joe Q had about Spidey not being married about it "aging the characters" and making them "less relatable to a younger audience". Unless it's pretty much essential for a character to be married, DC wants to keep them unmarried.
