Dark Knight III: The Master Race Gets Over 30 Variant Covers

Yeah that doesn't scream desperation on DC's part :roflmao: at this point they are just hoping to hook the collectors and completionists.

Didn't Marvel just do the same thing with Amazing Spiderman #1?

Considering a lot of them are store variants, is this even on DC? It seems like a way to create money for DC and for the respective stores. It seems like a win win and not desperation at all, IMO.

Sure.

Why create something that makes a lot of money on the SECONDARY market that they get NOTHING from? Front load this sucker and make the cash UPFRONT.

They learned a long time ago that fan boys will pay $2K for some ugly variant that isn't even actually rare, why not make a variant that's openly orderable and sell as many as they can (as they do with a theme variant for 20-25 titles every month).

Comics that get UNDER bought and then go for HIGHER dollars on the secondary market, has to be seen as HUGE mistake for a publisher. Promote, hype, advertise, use ever trick in the book to get the initial SALE.

Completionists probably see it as a pain in the butt... all the additional new comic 'sellers' we've accumulated here over the last few years obviously don't like it....

Right now the secondary market for current moderns is flat to dead... the companies are able to advertise and get the information out there better than they ever have and fans are able to access pre-release information easier than they ever have. On top of that a couple of quick crash and burn flash in the pans have made collectors wary of the marked up next hot new thing.

Is all of this good? Good for the publishers.

If the product is actually good, it's good for the readers.

I always tell people, 'collect what you like and can afford, and you can never go wrong'....

I don't get why publishers don't take that final step and slab at the source. Do some limited direct-from 'Uncirculated' labeling. Point-of-production minty mint, verified by the Minter, entombed to perfection...spectacularly priced.

They have to notice the secondary slab market, how much money they leave untapped, just labeling and plastic. Goose & golden egg, where they're the goose.
