Very nice signage!

I'm amazed they let you bump out the booth that much. I don't think that's done out here.

Corner booths are definitely always worth it.

Thanks. Having a Graphic Designer for a wife definitely has its perks.

They didn't seem to care at all. I lined my booth up with the adjoining booths who were already set up and looked down and we were a foot past the blue lines.

One of the things you don't hear much about is people coming up and asking to trade at the show. I usually hate to trade on the fly but the few times I said yes turned out to be nice. I had a guy come up with a Daredevil 168 in 8.0 or so and wanted to trade for my VG ASM 31 and I jumped on that trade.

I of course had a bunch of people ask me to buy their backpack filled with books or a spreadsheet of 90s drek they wanted to sell. I declined all of the random buy offers but you never can tell what comes up to you at a Con.

On Friday, the local guy (Stan) who last year I was selling his books on consignment came up to me and introduced his friend who turned out to be Carbo. Carbo if you don't know has to be one of the characters in the industry and he definitely plays up on this image. He offers to buy all my left over long boxes of books for $20 a piece on Sunday which I guess must be usual for him since I had just met him minutes earlier.

Long story short - I end up buying Stan out of his last 21 short boxes of books on Sunday at a great price so I turned around and sold Carbo my remaining 15 long boxes of $1 books for $20 a piece. Moral of the story its always good to leave a client on good terms (I stopped selling Stan's books due to being busy) and it never hurts to set the frame work for future deals like Carbo did with me. And I also learned doing consignment work is way too much work and I would have done much better if I would have just cut thru the chase and bought Stan out when I first met him last year. Lessoned learned.

Do they have height restrictions on booths? Seems you could always add a couple of more rows higher up and bring a small ladder or stepping stool if you needed to reach them.

I don't think they had a height restriction and I guess that would work if you wanted to put high price slabs on the top shelf since they are primarily display purposes only. Getting out the step ladder and getting a book would be a pain though and may be more work then its worth.

Andrew!!! It was great to meet you brother I am glad to hear your sales went pretty well. My clan was from out of town so we had a pretty strict schedule adding in the casino and a 4pm Deadpool showing at Tower City. You had great prices on the books I saw if you didn't sell that BA12 all weekend consider my mind blown. I hope you did well enough to come back next year. :wishluck:

Nice to meet you too! You sure have a cute kid. That BA 12 sat on the wall all weekend for $450 and the closest anyone got was $375 which I countered with $400 cash and was shocked when they said no. I think the other BA 12s were in the $700 range. People are strange when you're a stranger. It's a weekend without my daughter (she would not do well stuck in a booth all weekend) so I'm 90% a yes for next year. Lets see how the other 4 Cons go this year before I commit.

Your booth setup allows access to your wall books which frankly is not something I am fond of as far as customer access goes.

Too many dealers have lost wall books with open access to the display books.

Just my 2 cents.

Definitely something I was worried about but I was standing beside the wall (there is a box of TPBs on the floor in that spot in this picture). That way I could monitor the whole wall section while the helpers took care of the $1 books. I did move all the higher $ books to the inside wall on Saturday / Sunday to prevent someone from reaching in and grabbing the BA 12 while I was grabbing a book on the other wall for someone else.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Close off those entrances with short tables to add a few more long boxes of $1 or higher margin sets/priced as marked books and keep the wall off limits to grabby customers. You could get roughly half of the boxes on those back tables on that front line this way, and keeping your wall safe will more than offset any low $ sales you'd lose by reducing your cheap box access.

I love nit-picking other people's booths... :D

I would also say, don't have the booth lids underneath the boxes. You probably could've gotten another box on each side with the space wasted.

From a Con standpoint I thought there was a great selection of vendors with the right mix of comic book dealers and comic themed stuff to buy. There just seemed to be something for everyone. The CGC booth was very slow compared to Heroes or Baltimore but those two shows obviously have a much larger number of dealers and high end buyers. I did drop off 12 books to them and they were as helpful as ever.

I did love this shirt when I stopped to check out the shirt booth and was actually considering it (in 2x guys version of course):

The gaming area seemed like a strange idea but the kids loved it and I heard quite a few parents telling their kid they had to let other kids play and they couldn't sit there all day. The few times I went back and checked out the celebrities they were actually walking out into the crowd and talking to people. Jay (from Silent Boob fame), the Fonz and Data seemed to be great with their fans. Very cool to see.

The way those tables were bowing I don't think they could have handled any more weight.

I'm really not nit-picking his display.

I'm just trying to save him from having an expensive book stolen.

I don't care how vigilant you are or how long you are watching the wall.

Distractions happen, book gets dropped into a bag and bye bye show profits.

The biggest issue I had was people reaching out and grabbing books and I did have a ASM 36 (Twin Towers tribute book) fall off the rack but the guy ended up buying it so no harm no foul. I had signs up no touching wall books but people don't listen.
