Twentieth Century Fox has acquired the film rights to Irredeemable, the dystopian superhero story by writer Mark Waid and artist Peter Krause. The series ran for 36 issues at Boom! Studios. Tommy Wirkola is set to write the film, with Ant-Man co-writer Adam McKay set to direct.

Irredeemable is centered on the Plutonian. Once the world’s greatest superhero, the powerful character snapped and took control of the Earth, ruling with an iron and often bloody fist. It falls to the Plutonian’s former colleagues in the hero team called the Paradigm to stop him. In their desperation, the Paradigm turns to one of the world’s most vile supervillains for help.

McKay is coming off an Oscar win for The Big Short, and the surprisingly profitable success of Ant-Man.
