That was his very first gig in Hollywood as well..

So although most consider Tim Burton's Batman to be the stage 1 of comic book's rise into Hollywood, Robocop was just as important to the medium by accepting a prolific comic book writer to provide a storyboard for a major film

Major film is stretching it a bit there

Robocop 2 was a major Hollywood film.. It may have not been a major hit, but not an obscure film either

I liked it, but calling it a major film just seems flimsy. It's a B movie.

Robocop was produced by Orion, who was partially owned by MGM (which also distributed it alongside 20th Century Fox and many others).

What sucked more was actually the comic BASED on the movie. But all that isnt the point.

The fact that this was the 80s/90s and a major film company chose Frank Miller, a comic book writer, to write a story for one of their feature films, shows that there was curiosity among movie maker in comic books which accurately led to much bigger things. Both for Miller and comic books in film history

Orion makes great films.

Still doesn't stop it from being a B movie lol

Anyways....

It was not a B movie because it was:

1. Not produced/distributed independently

2. It was a follow up for a profitable first movie

3. Produced with a major film budget

It actually didnt do as bad as most other Orion pics at the time, but it wasnt a major hit as well
