CGC Grading Question

5 posts in this topic

Each corner of the case has a male/female post & post hole, the back side of the case having the posts, or pegs which seem to be just over .100 (.125 = 1/8 inch). These are the main elements that physically keep the case sealed. For a peg to be "missing" should raise concerns, to a 'don't do it' level! It has been compromised!

That should only be the case if 2 or more of the corner pegs are broken - with 1 compromised corner peg, you can't do anything to the actual book.

Yeah, the sleeve is seated in the bottom half, with the posts pointed up. The two opened cases I have (seen) , the pegs/posts are somewhat tapered starting at about .110 then down to .080. To say the peg is missing makes it sound like you can put in another. It's actually broken off, the end possibly still in the mating hole?

If the other side was popped loose, that sheath, label and all can then slide out of the case. Look for the heat seal at the bottom of the book. It should look nice and clear. If it seems cloudy, then that's not good.
