BA Batman!

Regardless, the only place I've seen #227 hyped is on this Forum and Greggy's GPA article.

I disagree. Batman #227 is a hot book that demands a huge price in HG. #222 too, but there's no GPA data of a 9.2 or 9.4 sale. I've been hoarding them since I figured this out. Your statement proves my theory, that no one knows about the hype. Check out the numbers below of Batman 9.2 GPA 12-month averages, and their % of OS 9.2 Guide:

Issue / GPA 9.2 / % OS

200 / $168 / 99%

202 / $118 / 215%

208 / $143 / 179%

209 / $118 / 215%

210 / $139 / 253%

211 / $79 / 144%

212 / $72 / 131%

213 / $103 / 103%

215 / $45 / 107%

223 / $91 / 140%

227 / $235 / 427%

228 / $91 / 140%

229 / $69 / 182%

230 / $61 / 161%

232 / $323 / 175%

233 / $88 / 135%

234 / $255 / 131%

So I'd say it's not overhyped on this board, but rather an undervalued Bronze key (due to the awesome Neal Adams cover), that's in the same company as #232 and #234. It's just that not many people are aware of it. (Until now. Sorry, October.) foreheadslap.gif

(To those skeptical of the data, #227 in 9.4 is trending around $430-$450, the likes you don't see in Bronze Batman, except for #232 and #234.)

Maybe I'm wrong and there's a ground swell of support for the issue, away from this Forum, that I've completely missed. Hype has to start somewhere though and I suspect some of those higher sales are a result of that Forum generated hype. I agree, it's a nice Adams cover and should command an increase over surrounding Adams common issues as a result. But just a small increase in my opinion.

I don't think it's anywhere near a comparable key issue to #232 or 234. That's just silly...

Of course, it may all be Greggy's fault for spotlighting the issue. When he talks, sans graemlins, people listen...

Thanks for the stats Rob. No doubt about it. Many people will agree that Bats #227 is one of the best covers to come out of the bronze era, and especially for the Bat books. That's my reason for wanting them too, and my reason for seeking out ANY bronze book with a killer cover. I'm just happy Oct. pointed out that underpriced Fine for $15 bucks because all I had before that was the signed G/VG. I'm still kickin' myself for selling the VF+ a few months back for $75 when that should have gone straight to CGC.

One unfortunate thing about Overstreet is that they often don't give any bump up in value for simply a superior cover. As a matter of fact in the 2005 Overstreet #227 is priced LESS than several issues around it like 218,219,223,228 and 233 just because those books are Giants. Doesn't make sense. It's also priced a bit less than 222. Superior covers matter and should be recognized and valued by Overstreet accordingly.
