4 to CGC today. Bought 2 on the boards and 2 from Harley. 

Mystery Tales #40 as a 4.5

Detective comics #211 as 5.0

Millie the Model #9 as 5.0

Archies Mad House Annual #3 as 8.5

Sorry but pictures were taken quickly on phone camera so we got some shadows in there. 

 

How close to CGC's final verdict do you think?

I wouldn't be surprised at any of them coming back with the sellers grades, but I'm going to guess based on what I would have thought without knowing that.

Mystery Tales 40.  Is there a piece out of back cover at top staple? Tanning and spine damage make it 4.0 assuming no piece missing.  Detective 211.  Great Fight Comics cover swipe. Nice 5.5. Millie 9.  Is that some sort of liquid spotting along the spine?  If so probably a 4.0.  If not a stain but just faded a 5.5 seems reasonable.  Archie Mad House Annual 3.  7.5 to 8.0.  I'd have CGC put Betty and Veronica on the front of the slab.

I don't think it is and I noticed the bottom one looks like a piece out as well and I know it wasn't missing paper at both staples so...

Millie has  some fading on its colours along spine and other areas like title. Looks more like a weak strike in areas when it was printed which is one of the things I debated before buying. The overall structure of the book sold me despite that. If it is damage due to some kind of liquid me or Harley couldn't identify it. It's a fav cover in the series and I could live with a 4.0 on it because it presents strong other than that.

Got the grades back today. I'm keeping them so they all got a press from Joey before being graded. 

Mystery Tales #40 3.5 C/OW

Detective comics #211 5.5 OW/W

Millie the Model #9 4.5 OW/W

Archie's Madhouse Annual #3 9.2 OW/W

 

I think the last one might be the highest graded copy now so the press seemed to  help that one a lot. Still learning the ins and outs of what to press and what to leave alone.

Some of the lower grade books like the Mystery Tales #40 I don't think get that much out of it. I was doing it for my own benefit thinking it could improve a couple of things but probably best to leave them alone. I'm starting to look more and count the number of "defects" on the book too that could be improved. 

I don't regret pressing anything yet. I sent a batch into CGC at SDCC to first try pressing and then used Joey this time. I'll use both going forward depending on the book. This was my learning experience in the process with books which is why I don't regret what I sent. I learned a little bit more out of it.

Aside from counting the number of possible improvements that could be made in a book I'm now also more aware/concerned with any book that some tanning on the inside covers. I read about the possible impact that pressing could have to books like that only after I sent in the last batch. There's a couple of books I sent that still ended up around the grades I expected but kind of wonder if pressing made the tanning worse than before. Not sure but won't risk that in the future.

Mystery Tales #40 is probably the only disappointment. I thought it'd hit 4.0. It actually looks better than a 4.0 with OW pages I saw recently too. Happy with the rest though.
