Q for the scientists regarding airtight benefits of new slab

I did not know they are air tight, are you sure about that ? I thought the off gassing required a little breathing room.

I thought the inner wells have always been pretty much airtight.  The new slabs, the top and bottom of the outer well are not airtight.
